2012** A new beginning!!

Aug 7, 2012, 3:41 PM

Just a few practices into the season and I am wondering how I will make it until the Auburn game lol!! I know expectations are really meaningless but I really think this team can be very good! 13-0 good I dont believe but I can see us as repeat ACC champions and a much better showing in Orange Bowl even if we dont win :)

If we stay healthy and play as a team and maintain tunnel vision, no looking behind or ahead, I think 2012 could be very, very good!!

I think the next few years look mighty bright if we continue to stay and healthy and recruit well. Still concerned about our D, but let's hope they take a big step forward like the offense did last year.

8-4 or 9-3 is at best.

2013 is the year especially if Tajh comes back...

"Why NOT Clemson"
"Why Not Dabo"

Talk about low expectations. I think we could easily go 11-1

9-3 is at worst in my opinion.

^^Auburn game will

Aug 8, 2012, 1:42 PM

show where we are, where we need to be, and just how good/bad we can be this year!! The quandry that comes from scheduling a tough opponent early on is we will gain a much better perspective on the reality of what 2012 will turn into!! We either tuck tail and hide(ie Alabama) or we repeat 2011 with a great start and parlay that into another terrific season...

While it may make for a long season if we have problems with Auburn and lose, we will know where we are in terms of national contenders and relevance quickly this year :)

P.S. Please guys, stop with the preseason rankings meaning nothing!!!
It means everything, how can we expect to compete for league championships or national championships if we dont at least start out in the rankings...We spend the whole offseason recruiting the best players in the nation, we then sign many of them, and we should expect or not care that this hard work means nothing...Come one, give our coaches, and players, some respect and admit it matters, signifigantly...

Exampe - #1 team loses 2 games, still ends up ranked in top 10 most likely.... unranked team loses 2 games and probably remains out of ranking!!

Does anyone care to dispute this? Love the dialogue on this issue

Go Tigers!!!

We will go 11-1. Talent-wise, we should win 10. Add the DC

coaching upgrade to the equation and, I see 11-1.

If we don't win at least 10 games with the talent we have, that will be a disappointment. In the USA Today poll, there are only 2 teams ahead of us who we play.

I see some people pointing to 2013 as a big year, based on who we have coming back. BUT, we don't KNOW the talent that our opponents will have coming back. We don't even KNOW who all of our conference opponents will be. We know that o-o-c, UGA will be coming here. BUT, we have to play So Car at their place. There is lots of unknowns and stumbling blocks about 2013.

I still think we could possibly lose 5 games (7-5 and a lousy bowl game). I don't expect better than 10-2, and would predict 9-3. 11-1 would require many miracles, and 12-0/13-0...well, virtually impossible this year. Maybe in 2-3 years we will be there. Not yet.

You do realize that we did not blow anyone out last year (except VT in the ACCCG), and we struggled in every win even against weak teams. Many times we had to keep coming from behind. We still lost to teams that we should have beaten (pulled that dang "CLEMSON" thang).

I want to share the enthusiasm, but for me, reality is still a beotch.

I'm with you. Doesn't take much to derail a season. I won't make a W-L prediction until I see us play Auburn.

14-0 or 6-6

Aug 8, 2012, 3:10 PM [ in reply to Re: 2012** A new beginning!! ]

I think the odds of us going 6-6 are about the same as us going 14-0. Actually, probably better. We have not played well or won in Atlanta since 2003, so our first game should be looked at as a loss or an ovrcoming, but its not by far an automatic win, esp with Sammy out. FSU will likely be a loss. We don't play well in Tallahasse at all. We have a road game vs Wake on Thursday night. Clemson never does well on Thursday night and Wake always seems to have our number. Maryland nearly beat us last year and they will be much better this year, and NC State will be better this year too, and they killed us last year. I hope Venabeles can stop the ### Option better than Steele, or GT will clobber us again. That brings us to South Carolina, who's logo is now on all Clemson products because they now own us. I hope that changes this year but if we couldn't beat a Lattimore-less Gamecock team with a green QB, how are we going to beat them this year?
I heard that we return a lot of starters in defense. Well, sorry but since our defense last year was pathedic I don't know why thats a good thing. We did have a few play makers on D last years, but those guys are all gone.
Our offense should be good, but there are problems there too. Esp at RB. Yes ellington is good, but what happenes if he is hurt? I don't think DJ Howard is ready yet to start. No more Dwayne Allen. Our line is very green, except for Freeman.
Now there is Boyd, who has great potintial. And I think a huge key to this season will be his mindset. If he keeps his confidence when things go bad, I think he will be great. But if he losses his confidence, which he did last year, then we are in for a long season. Cole or Kelly are simply not ready to step in.
So yea we may have a great season, but there are a LOT of what-ifs....too many for me to be comfortable.

I agree...if things go right...we could repeat and beat...

Aug 8, 2012, 4:14 PM

SC and if we make Orange Bowl we will definately win. We will play USF or Louisville. Not to show a lack of respect for these programs but it aint happening especially after last year and also the USF loss a few years ago.

We do have questions on defense this year but with Venebales at the helm I do believe we play better. I for one do not think our offensive line can't be any worse than last year. This offense that Morris runs is designed to get the ball out of Boyds hand quickly. With that being said the offensive line will improve as the season continues. I do believe we have more sacks on defense this year and force more fumbles. We do have some skilled LB's that will knock your head off.

Re: 2012** A new beginning!!

Aug 8, 2012, 5:00 PM

that is kind of the way i'm looking at it. our o-line can only improve, same thing with the defense. we will be in year 2 of the chads offense, so we will be playing faster, with a now 2nd year starter at qb in boyd. our lb's will be nasty, if the d-line eats up the blocking, the lb's will end the play-hopefully with authority.in the d-backfield,hall is healthy now for the first time in a long time, that is a huge plus. so,from everything i can gather, the result is we'll score more, and give up less.that should translate into 9-3,10-2 imo.
