Some of the beauty contests in those days sought to judge only from the girls' figures and not how pretty their faces were. It predated the unknown comic, I think, as well as the "Ain'ts" in New Orleans. I have no explanation for the wisdom of our poultry friends in printing it with an idiot leering at the girl, along with the lyrics to their alma mater, sung to the one of the tunes of "Flow Gently Sweet Afton"(always with the pantomime teacup.

That photo was from annual Derby Days sponsered by the Sigma Chi Frat.Had contests for the sorority girls back then.
