Great looking class, it is smaller in numbers, but high in quality. Like that we signed several bigs to win the trenches, and added speed at other positions.

Obviously, we've had some attrition among commits leading up to signing day which accounts partly for the smaller class size - but do y'all think another element here is the coming roster size restrictions? I could see our staff being intentionally selective so as to minimize cuts. None of them want to tell a kid who has been working his tail off for years that there's no longer a spot. I suspect staffs with less loyalty would think nothing of "upgrading" through signees and/or transfers - but I see us doing so over the course of 2-3 years as kids graduate.

14 is not a sustainable number of signees. We have taken a few fallbacks on the fallbacks and that doesn't look good for the future. We need help in some places immediately and it doesn't seem like there is an urgency to fill them. I know that recruits have to like you as much as you like them, but the playing field has definitely changed.

5 more guys will have to either hit the portal or move on to the NFL as underclassmen for us to be at 85. Also the House deal is not a done deal and doesn’t take effect until June if it is enforced. Right now only 9 of these 14 could enroll early in Jan. I didn’t count how many plan to. Obviously the staff expects at least 5 to move on probably based on conversations or analytics. None are expected to be starters or the core group. We also will have to cut some walkons in June if the House settlement is finalized, the ones they consider the best/most vital will go on scholarship. Transfer portal for the remainder if there is space. I haven’t counted who/how many will exhaust eligibility next year but expect the # will be quite large if we retain those guys for this coming year. We will finally be past 99% of the extra Covid years starting with the 2026 season.
