Is the CFP Causing a Move Toward a 64 Team Major College Football League?

With major college football now being all about TV rights and revenues it seems that it will eventually result in the CFP moving much closer to the NFL model.... All college sports championships except for the CFP seem to operate very well within the current conference and NCAA division structure, but it seems to make sense that the CFP will eventually have to operate outside of conference affiliations or alignments.... I'm not sure the rising costs to operate certain non-revenue sports (when realignments occur) are much of a factor for all schools, but they might be for some.... It will be interesting to watch this unfold over the next 5-10 years.... Especially, how membership in the league will be determined, what the league structure will look like (for example, 8 teams and 8 divisions / regions; and 12 or 16 team playoff), and what the minimum academic requirements will be.... We live in interesting times....

I believe Dabo has referenced this eventuality a number of times over the years. He knows it's coming and clearly helping ensure that Clemson is a leading player there when it does come to pass. It just won't make sense for some schools to play in that space any longer. Problem is the non-revenue sports will take a competitive hit also considering how much revenue being a football power contributes all over. We're seeing that pretty clearly here with how SEC programs have been funneling their extra cash to their other sports, and the competitive rise there.

1--- The SEC teams will have to throw a category 10 tantrum about they should be in the playoff....blah...blah....blah.

2--- These suit and tie people on all these boards and committees that have connections to a multitude of sponsors.... have to just come out and just flat out say they want to make more money.

It certainly seems like this is where it is headed. With the ACC adjusting our exit terms to where 2030 is now the target, while the Big 12, Big 10, and SEC all have their deals up for negotiation in/around the same time. It definitely feels like the powers that be are setting it up for a football exodus in/around that time.

Honestly if that's what it's coming to then let's let it happen. Then maybe the non-football sports can get back to playing regional games again. It doesn't make any sense why Oregon needs to go to Minnesota to play a women's basketball game or why Boston College should have to fly to Palo Alto and to play Stanford in a conference baseball game.

would be designed to maximize TV revenues. First thought is how long the post season games would be played.

If the PO starts early during the regular season within each of 4 major conference then naturally the final 16 teams would play in the CCGs and then post season for the final 8 games. The model for each conference is not that conference would be divided into two equal divisions but into 4 pods per conference.

Pods would play for each champion during the middle or latter end of the season and the last few regular season games would find the two best teams as the pod determine the best teams for the post season games.

The goal is simple, win your pod, beat another pod winner then play in the CCG for a spot in the final Four.

The advantages are that many winning team host regular season playoff games. Ever game counts and those teams which win are rewarded early and often.

BTW, you see how I hit the return key? It makes reading easier for everyone. I'm sure all will appreciate your courtesy.
