LB Bryton Constantin commits!

Apr 13, 2018, 4:30 PM

per 247

The Clemson Tigers landed a commitment Friday afternoon from Bryton Constantin, the top 2019 outside linebacker in the state of Louisiana.

The standout from University Lab in Baton Rouge picked up his Clemson offer in late February. This weekend's spring game is Constantin's second unofficial visit to Clemson since the weekend of March 3.

"Just overall in my opinion, Clemson has the best program, academics-wise and football-wise, so just looking at all the academic success that they have had and all of the football success, those two really took me away," Constantin said. "It's just the football and the academics combined."

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Constantin picked Clemson over a slew of offers, including Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, TCU, Tennessee, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Boston College, Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, SMU, and Tulane, among others.

Defensive coordinator Brent Venables has played a major role in Constantin's recruitment for the Tigers.

"I have a really good relationship with coach Venables," Constantin said, "and I talk to him every day. My mom has also gotten to know him well. They talk every week, too.

"Coach Venables is going to make me learn inside linebacker and outside linebacker, but I know that they're going to have me outside more, sometimes kinda rushing the passer, too. They haven't given me a specific position, but it's probably outside linebacker for the most part, depending on how much weight I gain."

Not surprisingly, Constantin has really enjoyed the two times that he's visited Clemson. He arrived late Thursday night and made his way to campus Friday.

"The campus was really mind-blowing," Constantin said. "The whole football facility and everything, it was really family-based and the people were just really genuine with you. I could tell they were being straight up with you. I could tell it was real comfortable and I wouldn't have anything to worry about if I went there."

Constantin said he will likely take his official visit to Clemson during the fall.

Will he take official visits elsewhere though he's committed to the Tigers?

"I'll be done," Constantin said of his recruitment.

The industry-generated 247Sports Composite ranks Constantin as the No. 47 outside linebacker nationally in the 2019 recruiting cycle, as well as the No. 22 overall prospect regardless of position in the state of Louisiana for his class.

The 247Sports rankings have Constantin a bit higher in both categories: No. 44 in the country among 2019 outside linebackers, and No. 21 overall in Louisiana.

Now that he has committed, Constantin said he will start to familiarize himself more with Clemson's recruiting targets so he can begin helping the cause for the 2019 class.

"I'm definitely going to start looking even more into that," Constantin said. "I'll definitely look at a guys on the offensive side and the defensive side. I'm going to help recruit."

I always have faith in our coaches and am not usually a star chaser. However, do you have any thoughts on whether he’s one of those we found early, unfairly rated a 3, or it is what it is and he’s a Clemson fit? Again I think he’s going to be great just curious if you’ve analyzed further than I have. Tia!

I am not Mr. Tigerbry, but I'd be willing to bet the house that he is a 4* come final rankings time fwiw. Coaches got on him early when he was under the radar and capitalized on it IMHO. Kid is going to be a Dude. Period.

IIRC he was named the best lb at his regional rivals 3 stripe camp

The skinny....

His recruitment has really taken off in the past couple of months after his amazing camp performance. He was named camp LB MVP and word is that it wasn't even a close competition. I would not be surprised to see him earn his fourth star because the secret is out on this guy. Somehow he's flown under the radar but that is no longer the case.

Constantin is a proven winner too, as his team won a state title and went 14-0 in the second-largest playoff bracket for Louisiana's private/select schools. University Lab is home to several P5-caliber prospects in the 2019 class. In addition to Constantin, U-High boasts cornerback Jordan Clark, athletes Christian Harris and Makiya Tongue, running back Mike Hollins, and offensive lineman Dylan Rathcke. He's used to playing with other talented folks and was also named a second team All-State player.

He's got the size you'd want too at 6-2 220 but I really like his attitude towards the game and his drive. His numbers are great- he recorded 104 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two defensive touchdowns.

"Bryton Constantin entered this camp as the No. 19-ranked prospect in Louisiana. He won’t be that when Rivals updates their rankings again late in the spring. This young man definitely out-played his ranking and he will make a significant move in a few months. Numerous schools have offered the athletic linebacker this month and he showed he can run, cover and play under control. A lot of the MVP awards were tight battles, but this one really wasn’t. Constantin ran away with it at linebacker and his ranking will reflect his performance and his upside when we update the 2019 rankings." -Chad Simmons, Rivals.com February 2018

He has 26 or 29 offers depending on which site you look at which indicates a lot of interest for a 3-star.
