Ray and I went to the same high school in Fayetteville. He was younger than me. His brothers were there at the same time as me. I stopped by his office in Easley in the 90’s. We sat around and told glory day’s stories of high school achievements.
We had a bus driver, Lacey Bethune that took us to the away games in our conference. He knew the best places to stop and eat! Also there was Coach Jacob Woullard feared for his skills with the paddle! Before I left he said I want to give you a copy of my favorite photo of me. He said Danny Ford had admonished him about missing a block on a return and told him next time I want to see you knock someone down. He gave me the photo below and said “I delivered”
He said he made the big leagues after Clemson during the baseball strike. He hit a home run or some great hit and was so over joyed and showed out too much that it caused a bench clearing brawl.
A great Clemson man and athlete.

I remember Ray Williams well. Amazing receiver in a time Clemson was run heavy. He didn't have a Watson or Lawrence throwing him the ball but still impressed me. I didn't know he wasn't well and I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

My sister knew Ray and he would come over and we would cook out on the grill quite a bit. He had a young daughter who I guess is all grown up now. He and Terrance Rhoulac were quite a pair.
