It doesn't need to encroach on NFL playoffs. While both are popular, the NFL is more popular, and college football doesn't want to compete with that.

The biggest problem is trying to shoehorn the bowl games into the playoffs.

Ohio State was a 9 point favorite and everyone picked OSU to win handily.

Which they did.

It wasn't an interesting game and the peak numbers occurred just before you knew it was over.

The season already starts before some colleges start classes. And it's hot in August.

But last year waa fallowing the UGA / TCU game which did not draw the numbers for so many reasons.

The ratings seem to be inline with most of the games the past five or six years. Not bad when considered game is a week later, Trump 2 premiered, etc

Disney/ESPN still making $$$$ when look at the bowls/CFP properties in totality. Overall, expanded playoff a success.

Seeding needs to change though.
