Rankings and the CFP

To prevent bias from playing such a large part of college football, there should be no rankings until after 8 games have been played. This keeps so many teams from receiving such a large advantage from initial high rankings.
As far as the CFP, there should be no more than 16 teams. No conference should receive any set number of teams, other than their champion. After all the conference champions have been determined, the rest of the field is simply the highest ranked teams left. Teams are seeded by rankings. To say any conference deserves a set number of teams is literally admitting they do not think their teams would be would get in the playoffs on their merit.

Any method used will allow the Big10 and the SEC to have more teams in unless the conferences are given a certain number from the jump. Things may change, but thinking the Big10 and SEC are not the best conferences is just sticking your head in the sand.

Right now they are, but the seeds should all be at large. The maneuver by SEC and Big10 were done to keep power between them for good. Auto seeding would turn the sport into a snoozer, even if the moronic and greedy are too boneheaded to contemplate harmony.

If they are the best conferences, then they do not need a set number, they will be there. Having a set number only comes into play if they are NOT the best.

I really feel like college football is moving to a 2 tiered system where Power 4 Conferences will have a National Champion and the Group of Five will have their Champion.
To throw the Group of Five a bone each year is just a little bit demeaning. They can’t match the NIL that Power 4 teams have and their best players are consistently poached by Power 5 schools.
My opinion only. Have a great day 😎

They should. It's make believe to pretend San Diego State is on the same level as Alabama and Ohio State. We should absolutely make another tier. Should have been done decades ago. If you start the year before your first game and go 12-0, and you cant really win the entire thing, what's the point?

It's hilarious to me that people think waiting to over rank teams until week 8 will fix it. If it's the same people ranking them, with the same bias, you're going to get the same result. Much like how people have also claimed computers should decide who's in. Where do you think the computer gets it's values of original strength of schedule from? It has to know the citadel isn't as hard as Alabama, so you have to program SOS in, but acting as if there will be no bias is funny. Ranking teams in week 8 may get rid of some Texas A&Ms or Miamis that are perennially overrated, but they're still going to view it as sec first, big ten second, and use those "stronger conference" schedules to justify rankings. If humans are involved at all, at all level or at any time, there will be bias.

I would be all for cintinuing making the conference more meaningful. When it comes to the CFP, top two teams from every conference from there on out. Sooner or later a school is going to figure out that going to CUSA or the Sunbelt is going to get them into the playoff every time. It creates a bit of pressure to not have all the big FB schools pile up into just a couple of conferences.

If it keeps going the way it is they are going to have to split NCAA fooball into more divisions. I still contend that league management like they do it European sccoer leagues would endable college football to be based on win loss records, PF&PA instead of opinion.

The first CFP rankings comes out Nov 4. That's after 8 games.
