Question about players changing positions on OL

Aug 11, 2012, 12:59 PM

I don't recall hearing about this happening much in the past, with multiple players changing positions, especially a senior who has excelled at his position like Dalton Freeman. Why are we doing this? Have we had more injuries at OL than the one earlier this week? Are we just that thin on the OL?? If the latter, why aren't we addressing that in our recruiting this year? I know we have 5 OL coming in this year - how many of them are redshirting? We only have one OL commit for next year, so I'm assuming we must be pretty good on OL depth for the near future... is that the case?? If so, why all the position moves??

Dalton is not moving to Tackle...but if there was an emergency and we needed him there he could mnove because norton has progressesd so much...you want your OL as versatile as possible

Norton is one of our best O/L.. maybe be one of the 5 best.. he can play C and Freeman can fill in @ O/T until Tim is back

You nailed it!! I really do not understand why Dabo did not interview a lot of people who post on Tiger net when He was seeking DEF. & OFF. Co-ordinators!

We are doing our best to address it through recruiting.

It's tough when your recruiting footprint is in the southeast because there's a big drop-off between the absolutely top OL talent (guys like Laremy Tunsil, D.J. Fluker, D.J. Humphries) and the second-tier players. There are a lot of pretty athletic guys in the south, but many of them are not fundamentally sound or mentally attuned to the nuances of offensive line schemes. An argument could be made that the middle-of-the-road players up north tend to be more blue-collar, more fundamentally sound, while guys in the south are big and strong but tend to be "projects". We have tried to go after some of those guys like Cameron Dillard from Michigan and Brandon Kublanow from Georgia, but missed.

Until we start putting more OL in the NFL, I don't see why the OL would start coming here in droves. We need to prove we can do it to start pulling the top talent (like Humphries last year). It should be noted that one of our big misses last year, Joe Harris (went to SCar), didn't even make it into school.

Do what? What in the world makes you say that about OL from the south?????
