Question about Fields

I was looking at his hs film. His junior film looks phenomenal and shows his burst on returns particularly. His senior film shows him really tough against the run at safety, but didn't wow. For those of you who have seen him in person or have some insight, does he have a legitimate chance to come in and contribute as a freshman? Baker was highly heralded and has gotten rave reviews from coaches. Do you think Fields can beat out him and others?

I think you can say highly regarded or heralded but highly heralded is a little funny. and yes.

Funny in a comical way or funny in a way that is more acceptable than it used to be? Just curious...

I think it will be tough for him to win a spot..

MA obviously has one side locked down. The other spot is going to be competition between Tankersly, Johnson, and Baker.

Also, before someone says Johnson is a safety

and not fighting for a corner position - I think he goes to CB because with Blanks back healthy, I think Blanks and Kearse occupy the Safety positions. Also, since others such as Wiggins, and O'Daniel have showed out at Nickel, I think he plays more CB going forward.

We have some really good younger CB so it won't be easy for him to start . Watch out for him on special teams though with the speed he has should make a lot of tackles

Any chance he gets in on the return game? This might be something that allows RRM and him to get some shine early. His return ability certainly looked elite against hs competition.

I've seen him doing all of the drills during camp, and I really like all of his tools and his skill set and the mental edge he has. However.....I always try and caution people that it's hard for freshmen to come in and contribute unless they are a WR or a kicker. It takes time for linemen to develop, and running backs, etc. Guys like Deshaun and Mackensie are just beyond special.....I had one guy who told me two years ago and last year that Scott Pagano was gonna be a MAJOR contributor right off the bat. Sometimes there are numbers in the way, sometimes there is development that is in the way....but to get to my point....
Cordrea Tankersley is a big old corner, and he made strides last season but he was impeded by Garry and Mackensie. And then you have Adrian Baker and other guys that have been there for over a year, and it takes a lot for someone like Fields to come in and play right off the bat. If he had enrolled in time to get here for spring practice, I would say sure he had a big chance to play. But he is enrolling in the summer and will come into the fall kind of behind a lot of others. It will take a lot for him to crack a rotation, but he can do it if he's as special as the coaches think.

Great insight. His speed and quickness give him a chance, but since he already has a very solid frame for a cb it makes me think his only real hurdle is going to be the mental jump. Didn't think much about the difference enrolling early would play. At certainly would have helped the curve.

I see Fields as starting out on the second unit and taking over mid season.

Tanskersly and Johnson are good. Baker who RS'ed was also highly recruited. Fields is good, but he isn't MA good and he even RS'ed tho mostly due to injury..

larger, clemson was deep everywhere.
another class or two and dabo's team will be approaching that level. it will be interesting "selling" against other teams that roll out clemson's depth chart when recruiting against the tigers; i'm sure they do it in spots already.
bama, fswho and others face that year in and year out; clemson is close, real close.
grats to the staff on another bang up job.
