CLEMSON, S.C. - Head Coach Dabo Swinney received good news from his medical staff Sunday night. Freshman quarterback Deshaun Watson and senior offensive guard David Beasley do not have major injuries and could return this season.

Watson has a sprained LCL and a bone bruise, while Beasley was diagnosed with Patellar tendon inflammation. Both were injured in Clemson’s loss at Georgia Tech on Saturday. Watson went out in the first quarter with Clemson ahead 3-0.

“We received some great news tonight,” said Swinney. “Both players are not seriously injured, something we feared Saturday. They are listed day-to-day and their status will be evaluated later this week.”

"Could" be back....

Nov 16, 2014, 9:07 PM

... Hope this isn't Dabo being cute to affect Carolina game planning for us. Obviously terrific news for Deshaun personally and great news potentially for Clemson fans. This could have affected next season too!

Very happy for you DW.

He will that's not a debilitating injury. It's on par with stoudts shoulder

Nov 16, 2014, 9:08 PM [ in reply to Before this board goes nuts.... WAIT!!!! ]

But actually probably less significant. I hope they never say if he's ready to go or not just so the coots won't know and will get their hopes up only to see him run down the hill and get the student section fired up for the #### beating they're about to watch us hand out

I'd imagine if he plays in two weeks there will be no running down the hill for him.

Do like Nirana at Reading: have him play the first series

while in a wheelchair. Hey, he'd still be more mobile than Stoudt! :)

Re: morris already drawing up Ga. State game plan that

Nov 16, 2014, 10:49 PM

you goobers i guess do not realize that as long as chad is here we will have a qb that runs the ball. hence the title dual threat qb. tajh is one. watson is one. kelly is one. bryant is one. isreal is one. dual threat means a runner and a passer. and every qb we sign from here on out will run it also as long as we run this offense.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: morris already drawing up Ga. State game plan that

Nov 17, 2014, 2:44 AM

No offense to Watson but Tajh was pretty much a grown man while he was here, whereas Watson is a skinny fella and already has been injured twice this season. I would think that if we had dual threat QB's that they would be 220-230 lbs. like a running back, not weigh in 190-200 like a WR.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: morris already drawing up Ga. State game plan that

Nov 17, 2014, 7:33 AM

Dual threat imply means that the QB is proficient running and passing. I would rather see them used like Russell Wilson where he uses his legs to extend plays and runs in the open flat if nothing is there. An occasional QB draw is fine. Gallman was more effective with DW in because of DW ability to run if needed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I really don't see a scenario outside of the miraculous

Nov 17, 2014, 8:16 AM

That he plays until the bowl game. A sprained knee is not a quick healer. There's no way he plays in two weeks. And if he does then he might experience what RG3 did and be down for more than expected, ie years. Think about like this as well, if he does play he will be overcompensating which in turn will put more pressure on the other knee which is why you see a lot of athletes with two ACL repairs instead of one.

Be real folks. It's schussler vs the coots. Defense will have to score points to win this game. It would be one of the greatest wins in Clemson history if it happened.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

there are THREE LEVELS for an LCL sprain. Doesn't say which

Nov 16, 2014, 9:00 PM

Grade 1 lateral ligament sprain symptoms include tenderness on the outside of the knee over the ligament. Usually there will be little or no swelling. When the knee is bent to 30 degrees and force applied to the inside of the knee which puts the ligament under stress, pain is felt but there is no joint laxity. See knee assessment for more details.

Grade 2 knee lateral ligament injury symptoms consist of significant tenderness on the outside of the knee over the lateral ligament. Some swelling can be seen over the ligament. When the knee is stressed as for grade 1 symptoms, there is pain and some laxity in the joint, although there is a definite end point indicating the ligament is still intact. In other words the knee cannot be bent sideways completely.

Grade 3 lateral ligament sprain is a complete tear of the ligament. Pain can vary and may be actually less than a grade 2 sprain. When stressing the knee there is significant joint laxity. The athlete may complain of having a very unstable knee.

Thank the football gods on that excellent news, whether watson returns this season or not an acl tear could have really been a huge mental stride as much as physical to get through! Would love to seem him back to end the streak against the coots but def don't want to ruin the kids career! Go Tigers
