QB Development

We’ve gotten used to having the best of the best when it comes to QBs. DW4 and TL16 were plug and play from their freshman year, needing only a few games to get used to the speed of college football. I’ve noticed that our other QBs (Kelly B, Hunter Johnson, Taisun, Brice) didn’t seem to progress much during their time here.
OL was certainly a huge factor in our offensive ineptitude Satdy night, but DJ was not ready. His decision making was not there when he most needed to show that he can adapt and overcome to the situation at hand.
Are we seeing a trend? I really like Streeter and I was glad when he came in staff, but I’m just not seeing development in ANY of the guys who need it most.

I think DJ was ready…he was prepared for what he thought UgA was going to throw at him and it was a bit more overwhelming than he had visioned. I think his technique and fundamentals went out the window once he was rattles..ie: missing check downs and running lanes…
I believe that this was the quickest and most aggressive defense he had seen…what people seem forget when comparing him to DW and TL is the lone factor that they both had substantial playing time and experience as true freshman…simply because they earned the starting job…aside from the fact they both had outstanding OL play that won two National titles by the time they all graduated. .this was DJ’s 3rd full start vs a very good defense…So that makes it easy to say that if we have DW4 or TL Saturday night that game is a blow out given how our Defemse played….but we don’t..we have DJ…we have got to patient for him and stop acting like a bunch of little whiny #######…period.

It’s not being a “whiny #####” to ask…

a question… about something that has been lurking under the radar… because the OL has been the main complaint… for the last few seasons…
We’ve had 4* and 5* QBs who have transferred off into obscurity after being in the program behind 1st string QBs that required relatively little input from Streeter. Watson and Lawrence were ready to play when they got to campus. The guys who weren’t ready to play when they got here never got any better.

The QBs that transferred out of our program (excluding Kelly), never experienced the successes commensurate with their “star rating” at their new schools. You can’t blame that on Streeter.

DW4 and TL16 are gone. This is 2021. It's DJ5 or next man up.
Did I miss something Saturday night? Do coaches not sometimes put in no. 2 and see if you can get no. 1 refocused?
DJ5 is not a sprinter. Seems he needed to step out of the pocket and try to get 3-4 on many plays. Yes a lot of plays the defense was in his face. But several of the plays (look at the replays) he mishandled the snap because he was looking elsewhere. Our Tigers got beat Saturday night. From Saturday, it appears the Tigers have to as Swinney says, "Next Man Up" when things aren't working.
Anyone every heard of NIL ? Was that a factor Saturday night?

Same with DW4. Excellent right out of the gate. I believe DJ will develop into a really tremendous player.

Just that GT and not this Ga defense Quite a different first game experience. Not the same as starting the year against teams we are expected to roll over DJ will be fine and so will this team..

ever get better after coming here. I think Trevor was as good day one as he was his last month. Obviously Georgia is a tougher opponent than Georgia Tech.

Neither of those two saw the defense DJ just saw that early in their careers. As much as I love both those guys, I don’t think having either of them in their first year starting changes the outcome of that game for us. The OL has gone from a weak point to a liability.

DW4 played and smoked UGA in his only series right out of the gate in Game 1. IMHO Tigers win that game if DW4 stays in the game even playing street ball with no playbook.

The main thing that worries me about DJ...he seemed flustere

by the UGA defense...yet, he has been going against a defense just as good, every day in practice! Now if our D isn't allowed to pour it on against him in practice...then maybe that should change, so he can get the benefit of going against a tough defense in practice! If he's playing against our D every day in practice, there no reason he should have been a deer in the headlights Saturday night!

Anyone ever heard of NIL ?? It seems a key part of the offense may have been bitten by the same on Saturday.
Look again at Post Game Interviews: only one player dressed in a three-piece suit, lot of jewelry, a fedora and doing some personal grooming during the interview.
Yes they 'took some credit for the loss'. But maybe they spent too much prep time going over NIL contracts. Maybe not.
I am quick to admit that I am not qualified/never will be to be a college coach. But even in Little League, if the pither (this case quarterback) is struggling/maybe not focused, you go to a backup. Even in Saturdays game, maybe for a series or two?
Just saying.
