Problems with basketball

Dec 13, 2015, 10:42 PM

I rarely post on here but I just feel like I should give my two cents as far as the basketball program is concerned. I have worked very very closely with the basketball program over the last few years and have been a fan for about 10 years. The first thing I want to know is why our fans seem content with less than mediocre basketball teams? People pretend as if Clemson Basketball can't be good when just a few years ago we were a team feared in the ACC with Purnell at the helm. I know Purnell consistently got us to the tournament and then knocked out in the first round, but at least he helped show that basketball success at Clemson University is possible.

Another thing is the people who claim that facilities are the reason that the program is where it is. That reasoning couldn't be farther from the truth. There are several teams around the country with sub-par facilities that have basketball programs light-years better than Clemson's. New Littlejohn will be completed next season and it MAY help recruiting a little bit, but I also think that fans are going to quickly realize that it's not all that D-Rad is building it up to be. It is going to seat less people and is not even close to being a state-of-the-art arena. It will be outdated the day it opens. Not to mention the fact that major events such as concerts in the new arena will be few and far between.

I don't know what the solution is for the basketball program, and I don't get paid to come up with that solution. I do know that Brad Brownell is not the answer. We need someone who will bring life to the program. The fan support is there, it's just waiting for something to actually be excited about.

Its been 2,150 days since basketball last played a game as a ranked team. It seems like no one is discouraged by that.

First off basketball success is not accompolished by going one and done. And just where the heck is Purnell now?
And as far as rennovations to Littlejohn,I will give you that some improvements were warranted considering that Doug Kingsmore Stadium just went under some improvements, but even that didn't help Jack keep his job after a long spell of subpar seasons.
As far as Brad,I am beginning to wonder myself if he is the man.Couldn't watch the game
Sunday( no eSECpnU),but losing to Bama should not be acceptable.Kentucky ,yes, maybe even Vandy, but not Bama unless they are better than advertised.
Anyone even remotely familiar with Brad knows he is a good X,and O man,but that he is also a defensive minded guy.Unfortunately holding your opponent to 51 or even 61 points a game won't get you many W'S when you are only scoring 50 to 60.
