game with Notre Dame. This is the first time I have ever seen a completely non dirt field. Is this a common thing for bad spring weather schools?

Probably not a bad idea for those northern schools

a lot of Big 10 schools used to not even have home games until half the season was over.

Lots of teams are going to it. Michigan has it and Bakich liked it.

I heard Erik Bakich give an interview a couple of weeks ago and he mentioned that Michigan has an all turf field and he liked it because it was easier to get the field ready for play after a storm, be it rain or snow. Bakich IMMEDIATELY followed that statement with "I know better than to ask for it at Clemson because we have a very natural field with terrific drainage system".
