Strike on Syria will divert attention. I believe only Mattis is keeping us from a very scary situation so far.
The drumbeat is too intense. And the political opportunity/utility is too obvious. I sadly believe we will see a strike over the next 24 hours. I sincerely hope I am wrong. Hopefully Mattis can hold the line.
If we strike, Russia/Syria will retaliate (somehow) this time. It will not be like the last orchestrated walk in the park. The only reason our government has slowed down it's aggressive rhetoric (mostly from Haley at the UN a few days ago) is because we are aware of the likelihood for dramatic escalation.
There is a lot going on behind the scenes that will make into history books one day. Hopefully the thesis will be "how close we came to a wider war."
But Bolton is insane, Pompeo is a warmonger and Trump is, unhinged, desperate and capricious. We have the worst possible people running the show for this situation. I'm shocked Mattis has held on this long.

think the truth looks crazy. That's part of the effectiveness of narrative. Narrative makes people recoil when they see something untethered to the mainstream current. Real news is something you have to find.

Agreed, you really have to look for it. Almost all outlets now have narratives.
Got to read a lot of them to screen out the truth.
I think Rueters, AP, McClatchey and a few others are fairly neutral.

There is some thinking that Rosenstein gets fired tonight or in the next 24 hours so I could see a strike on Syria being done at the same time to suck some of the oxygen out of that story.
I honestly don't think either side wants a war and will do everything to avoid it. However, I do think we will strike Syria soon-ish, but I'm thinking Russia will do little to retaliate (if at all). I think they are bluffing. I may very well be wrong, but I hope not.
