I started reading the article then after a couple of paragraphs, it was kind like blah blah blah blah blah Bryant not as good as Watson, blah blah, the OL didn't give him time to pass against the blitz, blah blah and so on and so on.
This was Kelly Bryant's FOURTH start for Clemson. On the one interception, it was not an OL's fault that Landry hit his arm sending a helicopter out to be picked off. All Kelly had to do was slide 3 steps to his left, and he had more time. This comes with reps and playing time. KB held the ball too long several times, thus allowing the blitz to get to him. Blitzes are common place, GOOD quarterbacks sense them coming, checks out of a play, or make better decisions. KB will get there. "Warning Bells" is not exactly the way I would have put it. This is still a new offense learning the ins and outs under a new quarterback, new running backs, so I anticipate them only getting better each game. KB doesn't quite have the instincts or reading ability of a defense like DW4, but that will come with more reps and games. Just my opinion, mind you. Next time Dabo calls for my opinion, well, I'm ready. LOL

5-6 yards every time we ran the ball? Give me that and you don't need to throw. Yes, everybody loves the high-powered passing game but there is more than 1 way to win a ballgame. We would get ahead of the sticks on 1st down runs but revert to pass game when not needed and kill drives.
Until pass protection improves, we will see opponents overload the OL with stunts and blitzes and force KB into mistakes. I say roll him out more so he can buy more time plus stress the defense on perimeter with run-pass option.

What I would like to see, I would like to see Jeff Scott take over the play calling for a game or two and see how the team reacts to what Jeff comes up with all by himself. He did lead a first year in it's existence HS team to, and win a championship as HC and play caller. Could Jeff be any good at calling play for his Clemson Tigers!!!! We want know if he never has that chance, and he could be the change our offense needs.

The article says 32-2, but the author forgot to include the victory over Oklahoma in the 2014 Russell Athletic Bowl. I'm sure that there are a large contingent of us that are curious to know how Jeff Scott would do as a playcaller, but I don't think that is something that we should experiment with in the midst of a potential playoff bound season unless the offense were to absolutely struggle for several weeks.
There's no way to know how good of a playcaller Scott would prove to be or if he would be better than Elliott even if he was able to be successful in that role. Also, it wouldn't be right to take away Tony Elliott's playcalling duties without any longterm struggles.

down and get 4-5 yards early in the game only to think we had to pass on 2nd down and throw incompletion. Made 3rd down distance longer which we didn't get and then punt.

The only thing wrong with KB is that he still doesn't have much experience.
He can make the throws but he has got to start reading the D better.
What made DW so great was his ability to check down at the line.
KB will get there and the Tiger D will keep us in the games until he does.

That was my point, "heed the warnings" is not exactly how I see the #2 team in the nation rolling towards the playoffs. Even Bama gave up 23 points to Colorado State. I wonder if someone wrote an article about Bama heading the warnings. Probably not.

Nice post Robbie. My gut tells me, and past experience with tough wins, and losses, show our coaches and players have and will respond to previous game shortcomings. I disagree that the Pitt loss was any more of a wakeup call than a 1 pt Tiger victory. It did reinforce the need for ball security essential for a CFP run. Our coaches know that from last year, yet must continue to teach that in subtle ways. To overstressed seems to make players too self-conscious and has a deliterious effect.
Bottom line, our team knows how to win and focus on correcting mistakes. We are National Champions and last year we had a multitude of things that needed and were corrected. The season is still relatively young, we're 4-0, we've beat 2 ranked teams, and we're learning to correct mistakes, just like last year. Go Tigers!

I wonder if some of the players, who had the stomach virus, we still a little weak from the week before. The hot weather and the previous weeks virus may have played a role in the O-line play. They were rotating them in and out in the first half. Just a thought.

Of course when you pass on third and long, you see blitzes. Maybe more passes on first and second down would make the passing game look better.

Robbie,
I have to disagree with you about the Washington and Michigan losses. They meant about as much as the Clemson loss. Was still made it to the Playoffs and Michigan had they not lost would of still lost toe OSU or maybe even beaten OSU but either way only one of them makes it to the playoffs last year. There was no way a one loss Clemson was not going to make the playoffs last year.

What i saw Saturday was classic defensive strategy on BC's staff of forcing the opposing qb to beat you by completing downfield passes. Many times it seemed that BC had 7/8 men in the box to contain the run with a blitz package to put pressure on KB. It worked, but BC didn't have an offense to cash in on what their defense was giving them. Give the credit to our defense too. I think we see the same defensive scheme this week with a better offense from VT. We need to game plan for what the defense gives up when they stack the box.

To be honest, warning bells were going off for me after the Alabama game last year. We had only scored 2 TDs going into the fourth quarter. We waited until the fourth quarter to score THREE TOUCHDOWNS!!
That to me showed the program was in trouble. You know what? They didn't even hold a practice after that game to correct anything?! WTH?!?

Am I the only one who feels ok with the win? It wasn't always pretty, but sometimes you have to gut it out. Give BC credit. They brought it, but in the end our talent won. It's a win. Let the coaches review the tape and shore up the weak points. On to the next one.

maybe you roll the QB out and away from pressure with option to run or pass since the offensive line has issues pass blocking or not enough bodies to block everyone. I would this the Tigers could do this better than most teams. You just know that more teams are going to pack the box to stop the run. Keeping the ball and running a defense sideline to sideline will wear them out. As Coach Dabo said prior to the Louisville game: " Leave no Doubt ".

Part of what made DW4 so special was his ability to pass outside of the pocket very effectively. And there aren't many quarterbacks who can do that AND do it as well. Can KB2 do it? Maybe, maybe not, or maybe with some more experience.

I'm sure it's been discussed on here in the past few days, but does anyone just think we ran a vanilla offense because we could win the game with it while not showing much to Va. Tech this week? I haven't gone back to watch the game, but I don't recall as much "eye candy" that we typically see. I was in the stands with the family, so I may have just missed it.
ND ran for 500 yards on them the week before. And oh yeah, we have a pretty good running game ourselves. The yards were there eventually, plus their offense showed no ability to do more than anything consistently.
It wasn't pretty, but it seemed pretty basic with enough to more than get the job done. The coaches will never admit to anything like that. You can't admit to treating BC like the out of conference cupcake they seem to be. Yes, they need to learn from the game film like every game film but warning bells? I don't think so.

While Clemson has so far played better than the football prognosticators predicted, it is yet to be seen if they are good enough to repeat. Repeating the success of the last 2 years is very difficult, and we can expect some games to not look like a championship caliber team at the very least. I do however believe the program we now have at Clemson is built for many years of being very competitive. I do think Clemson has a program that compares favorably with Alabama's program, and that is saying a lot. There is a chance that they will go undefeated, but a loss or 2 would be likely, and this VT game is going to be a major hurdle. If the Tigers play their very best and fall short of our now lofty expectations, I for one will still be proud of this team. I feel that to many, anything short of a repeat appearance in the playoffs would be a let down, and that is a huge amount of pressure to put on these kids. Having been a fan when just becoming bowl eligible was huge, I appreciate the obvious improvement to the program, and will still be proud if they do not make the playoffs. It will be great if they do, however!!!
