week, go to hand the entrance guy my money for parking, and he informed me it was CARDS ONLY. To which I replied, "You have got to be sh!tting me, to get into the FAIR?" So, had to pull out the debit card just to get in. But, to buy tickets, cash was still fine. Schzitso stuff going on.

Would you pay $4 a gallon for gas if you had to lay out green money versus clicking a couple keys and putting that on a card? This is a big conspiracy to fleece you make you spend more

Geez, some people think everything is a conspiracy. Digital payments are faster and more secure. There is less cash on hand to be stolen. Less risk of improperly handled transactions. Fewer trips to the bank for vendors to deposit physical money. Etc etc etc.
It's called technological progress, not conspiracy.

More hacking possiblities. People will think less about paying electronically that if they had to hand over money. Period. Obvious. Fact not conspiracy. We've had a couple fraud thinks w cards in recent years and we dont use cards just everywhere

Less secure. I'm on my fifth Discover card in the last four years due to getting hacked and going through all the red tape and grief to dispell all that is involved. No fraud with cash.

what legal tender you'll accept. For example, a seller can specify what denomination bills he won't accept (such as $100 bills being too large) or he won't accept $30,000 in pennies for you to buy a car.
Specifying that you'll only accept electronic payment is perfectly legal.

I think the literal description is what it is: cash is legal tender for payment of debts. A transaction can be anything. If I want to trade a Mustang for a Camaro, one can't come demand I sell the Mustang for the cash he offers. "Not legal advice. Consult your lawyer."

The parking organization at the fair is not a creditor if they don’t allow you to purchase tickets. You have not created a debt. They are legally allowed to be cashless. They have simply denied you entry because you chose not to pay via a non-cashless means.

Most places don't charge a fee, and I get 2-5% cash back on my card purchases so it comes out about the same if they do charge a fee.

Yep....and more opportunities for taxes and fees! Each time those cards are used!
A $20 bill used to pay for a haircut is still a $20 bill when the barber uses it to pay for a sandwich at the local diner....and is still $20 bill when the diner worker uses it to buy something.
Debit/credit card transactions have a fee (usually 1.5% or so) that either the vendor pays or, passes along to the customer. That $20 over card transactions is quickly reduced to nothing....
Paying cash at a locally owned establishment gives "freedom" to the vendor and customer.
Go Tigers!!!

Right after Hurricane Helene went through the upstate of SC (specifically Spartanburg), many banks weren't open, the ATMs were down, and a lot of the grocery stores and gas stations were cash only.
Digital pay is great when everything is up and running. My neighbors, a young couple in the their mid 30s, never envisioned a time when their cards wouldn't work.

Harvard school of business found people will spend more and make more purchases with a credit card, next is a debit card, last is cash. They aren't going cashless for you, they know you will buy more, and they need fewer employees. I'll add, you have less consumer protection with a debit card vs credit card.
Cash, don't leave home without it.

Just had this conversation with my daughter at UNC-C. AS we just had to freeze her account and open a new one. This is Dave Ramsey 101. I've also noticed that more and more businesses are not eating the CC percentages charged to them. Cash is usually cheaper (seen the Cash vs Credit price at the gas station?). And forget American Express. Most local businesses I know won't even take it. the percentage is just too high.
NOTE to this generation: EASIER DOES NOT EQUAL BETTER!

I get at least 2% cash back on my card purchases, so it comes out about the same even if the merchant charges a little extra to pay by card.

Even with interchange fees it's much cheaper to run a large business cashless. If you're just a mom and pop maybe not, but in most cases it save a lot of opex to go cashless.

I have a bunch of cards and I've never had to replace one because I got "hacked". Y'all need to stop clicking on scam emails and trying to buy stuff from sketchy websites. Read up on card skimmers so you can recognize them.

Good point. It's also important to only use secure passwords, and to have a different one for each site.

Another level of protection is that most financial and healthcare related sites offer two-factor authentication. Whenever it is available, I set it up for access. It can be annoying at times, but I believe it is worth the time.
