With 3 big sacks, Jadevon Clowney healthy & ready to move on

Dec 18, 2013, 11:01 AM

Clowney was the face of college football's offseason, largely because of his oft-replayed, helmet-popping hit on Michigan's Vincent Smith in last season's Outback Bowl.

But Clowney acknowledged 2013 was not the disruptive season he had hoped for -- he had just three sacks, 10 fewer than his record-setting sophomore year. However, the 20-year-old still believes he's ready for the next level.

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has Clowney as his top NFL prospect, ranked No. 1 on his Big Board, despite the drop in production.

Still, it has not been the easiest road this season for Clowney.

He was bothered by recurring bone spurs in his right foot, a problem he has had since high school. He pulled out of the game with Kentucky a short time before kickoff, citing strained muscles around his ribs. The move surprised and frustrated coach Steve Spurrier, and touched off a weeklong debate about Clowney's commitment to the sport.

"I had to grow up fast, put it like that," he said. "I've had to grow up faster than people expect."

Clowney has shown a stellar work ethic since then, defensive line coach Deke Adams said. Clowney has had 7½ of his 10½ tackles for loss in his past six games. He sat out South Carolina's 70-10 win over Football Championship Subdivision opponent Coastal Carolina on Nov. 23 to rest up for Clemson, against which he notched his last sack in a 31-17 victory.

"I think he's handled himself well," Adam said. "I think some of the things throughout the year have been blown out of proportion with the way it happened. He's been great for us here."

I certainly do not think that Tajh is a joke and a pile of garbage! However, I can understand your anger because he's had a few bad performances. I am still very confident that he will succeed at the next level, because of his dual talents and leadership skills. To most Tiger fans, Tajh is statistically the greatest QB in both Clemson and ACC history!

Still an immature thug. The only "growing up fast" he's done

Dec 18, 2013, 11:45 AM

is due to his HGH/steroid regimen.

Half his total in '12 was 4.5 on Tajh & ran into 1 this yr.

1. any link and/or story of ANY trouble he's been in with the law or with the university.

2. Any link or evidence that he's been on steroids including shots from high school to now.

I'll hang up and listen.

Okay -

He was held by the police in Columbia - while he was still in HS. Regardless of him being arrested or not, he was in a place a 17 yr old unsupervised CHILD shouldn't have been. I seem to recall something about him being pulled over for 110 mph - very recently. My sister was pulled over going 105 on I-85 and was taken to jail...
My Clemson biased aside - I have a friend that is a USC undergrad and law grad (he's a HUGE fan). His son and daughter both go to sc and I hear weekly from him how "da clown" acts on campus. He's known for showing up for classes when he feels like it, if at all; walking out of classes, answering his phone in class and making sexual innuendos very openly. And again - I'm just repeating what a co-worker/friend of mine, who couldn't be a bigger sc supporter, has told me on numerous occasions.

I can't say I really understand a lot of angry Tiger fans need to dismiss Clowney as a "thug", based solely on his torturous treatment of Tajh in the 2012 game.

Very probably 1st round, maybe 1st pick, to the worst team in the NFL, where he will likely be an all-pro for years to come.

Just hang up and don't call back...***
