He humorously wrote about playing basketball against Clemson and running into some football players as he slid into the fans chasing the ball.

I read most of his books over ten years ago, and although for the most part I enjoyed them, as I recall them, he never left any opportunity to put Clemson in a negative light. Guy seemed to be on a mission to put Clemson down any time he mentions us. Seemed to me to come across as an unfounded superiority complex. At least that's how I remembered the books. Other than that, he was a gifted writer.

A HS classmate played as a sophomore during Conroy's last year. Was mentioned in his book My Losing Season. The Frosh team the year before would often beat the varsity in scrimmages.
