PFF Grades Barnes vs Mukuba

I have seen some of this discussion elsewhere and a lot of takes that Mukuba transferred because Barnes took his spot and that Barnes is objectively better and we didn’t need Mukuba anyway.

Their stats are pretty similar this year but what about their PFF grades which, per Ryan Kantor’s excellent article, are the best objective measure of performance:

Khalil Barnes:

Not even close

Mukuba is a really good player and his transfer materially hurt our defense this a year. Khalil Barnes had a definite sophomore slump, though his production was pretty good, he was out of position a lot and had a lot of missed tackles.

A lot of people like to write off all transfers as non contributors that got passed up on the depth chart but I think in the case of Mukuba it is just
not true!

Losing a solid player always hurts but he was going into the draft until Texas waved that cash in his face. He wasn't going to be here this season either way.

His playmaking ability made you forget about Mukuba. Mukuba I think has had the better coaching as of lately though. Barnes has made plays this season.....but not like when he first started.

Mukuba plays his natural position, he is a considerably better player...That is why Texas poached him
