Former ADs at South Carolina and Clemson really screwed up when they chose to overlook him. He's probably in position to shoot for even bigger and better now.

I'm fine with giving Brownell more time, but it just makes no sense that these schools have cut their nose to spite their face with this guy. All he does is win. People forget what a dumpster fire Winthrop basketball was before him too.

Greg Marshall was not ready for ACC basketball. He though he was the 2nd coming of Coach K by the end of his first year at Winthrop. I know Gregl; former players and assistants of his well too..glad Clemson didn't go after him. Class and character mean something...

By all accounts he runs clean programs that win. Any other insinuation is just airing dirty laundry. These vague "he's a jerk" type posts permeate the South Carolina board and comes of as a sad way to deflect their failing in securing this guy. Popular rumor says our prior two coaches left after having affairs. Marshall was completely tied into state and regional recruiting and would have probably been able to win right away at either school. Moot point now. Like Stevens and Smart, he can hold out for one of the big gigs now.

I would have been happy if we'd of hired him in 2003 instead of Purnell but I can understand not making the move for a Winthrop coach. But overlooking him in 2010 and 2012 was preposterous by both schools.
