People really need to read the Greg Marshall interview

And listen to the Cliff Ellis interview!
Get a coaches perspective
Coach K even lectured the Clemson fan base on what it would take for Clemson to move up in basketball. And it didn’t involve hiring a new coach. It was about support for the team.
Much like we always criticize other ACC schools for not giving a D**** about their football programs.
Even if we did look for another coach (which I am not for), a big name or hot prospect is not going to come to Clemson because of the lack of support from fans & administration. 5 former coaches in the dance & not one would come back to Clemson. And OP was not one of them (I Like OP)
The same can be said about top recruits. People say coach needs to recruit better, but when recruits visit they see an empty arena and fan websites that have nothing but football in the middle of B-Ball season. Makes for a hard sale.
If just 1 out 10 of the fans that show up for football would show up for B-Ball it make a difference in both W & L and also recruiting. They were basically giving away Tix and free hotdogs & cokes to students.
H3ll, Gamecocks win 1 football game in 2 years, (not to mention decades of average teams) but they still packed the stadium. Yeah, they may have left by halftime, but they still showed up. What did it get them? An administration that wanted to please the fanbase and a coach that saw and appreciated the enthusiasm, then recruits and turned the program around. just saying
I am as disappointed & frustrated about this season as anyone, but I feel our best players are returning and will be better next year. I want to stay with Coach Brownell and hopefully after he gets things turned around he will stay with us, rather than bolting to another school. We need to stop the new coach every 4-5 years. I hope Coach brings the success we all want and then everyone should want him to stay a long time. Same as the football staff

Rick Barnes got fans fired up. Dabo Swinney gets fans fired up.
Brad could learn something from these guys. Being a technically great basketball coach means nothing if you can't get your base fired up.
Get the students excited, the fans will follow

I completely disagree. Barnes won games

Which got fans excited but nothing out of the ordinary.
I will also say attendance at the crappy games was not much better under Barnes our op than it is under any coach.
Attendance isn't an issue vs duke. Nc, Syracuse .. etc... or high ranked high profile teams.

Sorry to offend the OP but I call BULLCHIT on this entire line of thinking.
Here's a more accurate summation - and remember that "Perception becomes Reality".
Build it and they will come.
Yeah - that rings true. Tell Jack and BB to put a decent team on the field/court and the stands will be full - just ask Dabo. Maybe Dabo needs to coach the coaches on how to recruit. I hate lameazz excuses like this to calm the masses. This is an absolute insult to the intelligence of CLEMSON fans.

We broke ground on the WEZ after Bowdens worst year

Bowden had a 60% win percentage through 2004. 2004 was statistically Bowden's worst year and his winning percentage at that time was lower than football's overall winning percentage. The WEZ allowed us to upgrade facilities and training abilities for players. Recruiting followed. And Dabo is riding/driving that wave. (Another history lesson, the south upper deck was added after we went 2-9 and 3-6-2. 4 seasons later we had a National Championship)
Oliver Purnell had a "brand new renovated" Littlejohn when he started and we actually got some athletes. Those plans actually started when Shyatt was having the ACC play in game named after him.
Brownell just had one of his worst years but his winning percentage is statistically higher than basketball overall. But yet, him thinking that we need an upgrade in facilities is somehow an excuse for a subpar season.
So facilities upgrades have been proven to energize programs at Clemson. For some reason we as a fan base are proactive with making sure that football never falls behind again. But for other sports we demand a return in the form of wins BEFORE we make the investment in the programs. Maybe we are content with being a football only school. But if that is the case then we can't complain about wins and losses and want to fire coaches doing mediocre jobs if we are only giving lipservice support as fans and administrators.

This is a tired and untrue argument based upon a false

premise.
It is not true that Clemson fans don't give a ### about their basketball program. We love basketball and crave a team we can rally around. Just last year, when we were in the NIT and we had a good chance of winning and an exciting player to watch, the gym was rocking. The empirical evidence simply does not support your conclusion.
Stop blaming fans for the product on the floor. Build it and they will come.

we have boring leadership right now and a lackluster product to watch. Its just not fun to watch Brownell's teams play basketball and frankly the man himself does very little to promote his own and Clemsons brand. A little marketing and charisma would go a long way.
he is a good aocah but it takes a little more than Xs and Os to take the next step at Clemson. People need somthing to rally around.
Brownell gets one more year and thats it. Finish the Littlejohn renovations and then DRad needs to go all in on basketball and create a brand. SHell out some money for a coach, invite former players back to be a part of the program, form a committee of former players or those close to the program to find a championship coach.
Its no easy task, but it can be done.

for a couple of year span, Clemson was almost a basketball school. The team was very good and Littlejohn was always packed. You had to camp out out tickets. Clemson will bring the support, but we are not in a position to support a bad product.
