I think you are exactly right. They are not quick to rank these guys based on one season like Clemson and/or TL fans would do ...
My feeling is there will be little to no doubt after this season for several reasons, in no particular order:
1) His natural physical abilities 2) His comprehension of the game ... especially in reading defenses 3) His work ethic 4) The position his defense is going to put him in ... game after game 5) His corps of WRs 6) OL ... and remainder of offensive skill players that spread out defenses
I am sure there are more ... but, back to work.

say he's the best.
It doesn't matter who it is. They are at Alabama so they are automatically better than everyone else in their eyes

I feel the Archie Griffin award is more important the Hesiman. What’s the point of an entire season if you don’t look at it all. Trevor was the best player from start to finish and he wasn’t even the starter to begin the season. He didn’t play an entire game from start to finish yet still dominated. Oh yeah and he was a freshman!!!! I can’t wait to see how the O dominates this year and what the D can bring to the table.

If the definition of a cupcake is a team one defeats by a wide margin, then Alabama's 2018 schedule consisted of 12 cupcakes, including all of their SEC opponents except Georgia. Isn't that the same criteria everyone uses to make fun of our ACC schedule?
When rating a team's schedule as the toughest in the entire country, is that not an indication that team is a cupcake?

until the 2019 season starts, last year's NC game gets further in the past. The Pro SEC pundits will push Tua more. Also, they will talk about Clemson's losses on the DL so by mid August, Bama will be #1 and UGA possible #2. Its what they do, we shouldn't be surprised.

Clemson has turned the college football world on it's head. And I love it. It's comical to listen to the "experts" peddle their rubbish. The talking heads are nothing more than theatrical nonsense. Plain and simple.

Who is this Tua guy some are talking about??? Who does he play for, or is he a recruit? Is he better than that sorry quarterback that threw 2 interceptions in the National Championship game? Whoever he is, he would likely be on the 3rd string if he had went to Clemson...right behind Chase Brice. Wait, now I remember, he is that Hawaiian scrub who nearly lived in the injury tent last year.
