Been fun listening this morning...

Jan 7, 2015, 8:26 AM

Yeah he's no Pedro fan

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pedro was automatic for the HOF, the biggest

Jan 7, 2015, 8:31 AM

injustice is that there were people who didn't vote for him. The baseball HOF process is broken and it needs to be fixed. This whole tradition where nobody can get voted in unanimously on the first ballot is ridiculous. Big Unit should've been unanimous too.

The Yankee bias is shining through!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What's his problem with Pedro?

Jan 7, 2015, 8:33 AM

A three time Cy Young award winner, in addition to his other accomplishments, absolutely belongs in the HOF.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He only won 219 games .... not a very HOF worthy number***

300 is hard to come by in a 5 man rotation

Jan 7, 2015, 8:38 AM

May not ever see that again.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I can tell you there will never be another 300-game winner

Jan 7, 2015, 9:00 AM

Unless the pitching paradigm changes again.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yea, I do not know much about baseball

Jan 7, 2015, 9:01 AM

but I have heard that for years.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Randy Johnson was the last one.

Jan 7, 2015, 9:04 AM

Only three active pitchers are even above 200, and I doubt any of those even approach 250 (Tim Hudson, C.C. Sabathia, Bartolo Colon).

There are only four active pitchers with more than 155 wins (Mark Buehrle has 199).

Make it idjit proof and someone will make a better idjit.

I get that, but . . .

Jan 7, 2015, 8:38 AM [ in reply to He only won 219 games .... not a very HOF worthy number*** ]

it's still about 55 more games than Koufax won.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He was also a three-time Cy Young winner.....

struck out 3,154, led the major leagues in ERA five times, and in 2004 helped the Boston Red Sox to their first World Series title in 86 years. He was also one of the most dominant pitchers of his era.

He appeared on 500 ballots which equates to 91% of the votes so the baseball writers clearly disagree with Plylers assessment.

in his prime. When you win 3 CY's, you deserve to be in the Hall.

I agree. I was just pointing out MP's argument. But the

win total is lacking for such a dominant pitcher.

Of pitchers in the Hall of Fame, only Whitey Ford won a higher percentage.

die hard, lifelong Yankee fan here and Red Sux hater

Jan 7, 2015, 9:09 AM [ in reply to He was one of the most dominant pitchers when he was ]

Pedro absolutely is a HOFer, no questions asked. Dominant pitcher who had seasons where he was practically unhittable. 3 Cy's, over 3000 K's, and I hated seeing that guy on the mound anytime, anywhere, especially against the Pinstripes in the playoffs. I despised him but as a competitor, the guy was relentless. He was a RH Koufax in his prime....some injuries, choppier career than some, but came after you like a madman over and over and wanted blood every time. The Red Sux are like USuCk to me but great and dominant is great and dominant, period.

There are over 20 pitchers in the HOF with fewer wins.***

There are people seriously arguing Pedro didn't have enough wins to be in the HOF? Really?

Pitcher wins are one of the worst stats in baseball***

Jan 7, 2015, 11:17 AM [ in reply to He only won 219 games .... not a very HOF worthy number*** ]

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pedro is one of the top 5 to 10 pitchers of all time.

Jan 7, 2015, 8:53 AM [ in reply to What's his problem with Pedro? ]

He is the ALL TIME LEADER among starters in adjusted ERA (ERA relative to league average when he pitched).

In the year 2000, if he had given up twice as many runs as he did, he would have still led the AL in ERA.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that 2000 stat is so absurd it's comical

Jan 7, 2015, 11:09 AM

folks that don't know baseball have zero idea of how dominant that is on a MLB level where everyone there can hit, especially in the AL where you don't face pitchers and have a DH....not to mention how many of them were on the juice back then. The only years that compare were Koufax's and Gibson's 1968 year with the Cards in terms of pure shut down dominance. If he would have been bigger and stronger he'd have had less injuries. And this is from a Yankee fanatic that hated him with a passion. Other than Maddux and Seaver, i'd have taken him over any other RH pitcher I saw pitch in my lifetime. He was a pure killer on the mound.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

his wins were not high, but his stats were pretty dang good

Jan 7, 2015, 8:43 AM

Martinez, 43, was 219-100 in parts of 18 seasons. He had a 2.93 ERA (best-ever 154 ERA+ among starters), 1.05 WHIP and 3,154 strikeouts in 2,827 1/3 innings. He won three Cy Youngs and finished second two other times. He topped his league in ERA five times, WHIP six times, strikeouts three times, wins once and winning percentage three times, among other rate stats (like hit rate five times). He won a World Series ring with the 2004 Red Sox.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

HOF is about 'greatness' (or at least it should be)

Jan 7, 2015, 10:58 AM

and Pedro had it, for just long enough.

he was an absolute lock to be elected in his first year on the ballot

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's just not a follower of Jobu...

He's probably just mad Mussina didn't get in and Mattingly is gone from the ballet

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He had a strong opinion about something?

Jan 7, 2015, 11:47 AM

That's unusual. I've only heard him spout statistics about things.
