I think the guy's name was Clint (at the time I was there, late 80s, he was probably the same age I am now - mid-50s!). Used to get my hair cut there all the time - ROTC buzz cut.
Best part was the scalp massage after, as well as the hot shaving cream and the straight blade. Can't hardly find anyone who uses the straight blade anymore.
Loved that scalp massage, though. Went in there one day and had a headache. Mentioned it to him, he asked me where it hurt, I told him, and sure enough, after a little work by ol Clint, it went away and I felt great! The cut was probably around $5 or so then. I can't even get mine cut for under $20 now, once I add in a tip.

Yup! Got cuts from both! Got a flat top once and got sick of having to trying to take care of it. Just went for the crew cut after that.

will give a straight razor shave. Uses to go when back to see Mom. Since she has now passed I'm never down there to do that. Has the same chart of hircuts that Floyd's used to have in Mayberry, odl coke machines, and posters. A trip back in time

Remember those Clemson House hair cuts. I worked at the CH as a bell boy when I was in the 10 thru 12 grade at Daniel HS. Also worked at the desk check in and switch board while a student at CU 66 to 70. Helped me pay the college bills. Of course the kids today would have no idea what a switch board was. My favorite was sometimes working the cash register in the TIGER TAVERN in the basement. There was a table close to the register which was an unofficial meeting place for Coach Howard and some of his cronies. Banks McFadden, Col. Littlejohn, Mr. Jones ( forgot first name ) which brought "the Rock" to Coach Howard from California just to name a few. I wish I had had a little more appreciation then for what these names would mean in Clemson History. I listened to the jokes and stories while working. Some would not be suitable to repeat but I would give anyting if I had made notes.

Clint Morgan was a fine man. That electric handheld massage was terrific and he always used it on my shoulders. I even bought one of the massagers after he retired and I still use it.
His shop was on College Avenue near Bowman Field until he semi-retired and then began cutting hair and shaving with the straight edge razor and warm shaving cream with Dennis Laye at the Clemson house. I still miss both of those men as they did a great job and told interesting stories.
Clint's wife also baked and decorated delicious wedding cakes. She baked one for my marriage 45 years ago and my wife and I are still together, so maybe it was the cake that helped it last.

What I remember most about Clint's Barber Shop was every Friday night the "L" and the "I" were connected by red paint to transform those two letters into a "U".

I got my haircuts at Clemson House until it was torn down. One day an older gentleman came in, his hair dirty, his beard very long and unkept and his hair was very long. The barber washed his hair, cut it, trimmed his beard and shaved his neck. I was next in line and asked the story about this gentleman and he told me that about every six months he would come in for a clean up. I will never forget the respect he showed that gentleman even though his clothes were dirty and wrinkled. He really made an impression on me.

Dennis cut my hair for 30+ years. He never asked how I wanted it cut, he just remembered. Can't get type of experience or environment anymore.
