Guys.... look at his face. He is smiling like a child. Why is he smiling like a child? Because he knows Christian Ponder is going to try to hit him. McDaniel had no time to plan this. This was his automatic, natural reaction to realizing he was going to hit FSU's QB as hard as he could. If that isn't Clemson football, I don't know what is.

Never seen that angle before. You can definitely tell he knows what he's about to do, and is super excited about it.

Somewhere in the archives....

...McDaniel describes what he was thinking when he spotted Ponder coming his way after the pick.
It was something to the effect of "Oh, you want some of this?" "Get ready, 'cause a hit is coming...and it's not going to be pleasant on your end, QB".
As we know, this ends badly for Ponder, but McDaniel had already pictured the outcome in his mind - thus the smile.
Ponder's last thoughts - that he can recall - were something to the effect of "Uh, it *seemed* like a good idea at the time".
Fantastic picture.

he had not pointed him out. McDaniel let the whole stadium know what he was going to do before he did it. This made it priceless!
You can see the start of the point in the picture.

When the prey goes after the predator, the predator smiles because he knows he's going to get a chance to f- Ponder up. Like one of his coaches said. Deandre is a violent hitter.

IIRC, Ponder outweighted McDaniel by about 10 pounds.

That hit was not so much about the physics of it as much as it was one guy who makes a living hitting people and one guy that does not.
I remember McDaniel talking about that point. Something to the effect that he wasn't going to shy away so if Ponder was going to go after him he'd better be ready.
