Our play calling in a nutshell

Cade will be in a rhythm and we get a lead. Then, Dabo calls in to GR and says, "We need to get Mafah involved." Then we try and force feed Mafah instead of expandind the lead by sticking with what's working. The Offense then grinds to a halt for a couple of possessions particularly if the OL has some blocking errors. Then, he tries to get Cade going again, but now he's out of rhythm. To get him back in rhythm he calls those WR screens which haven't worked since Grisham's been here (except that stretch of games at the beginning of the year after the UGA gm). Once we get a series of bad offensive possessions and the opposing team closes any cushion we might have had early in the game, GR then tries to open things up again.

I have one response to the play calling. Why the hail did we hire Riley. Waste of money for how we r calling plays. With this type of football you r a loser. Sooner or later luck runs out

I just hate how we don't take advantage at what the defense gives up. 1 on 1 coverage all game, we'd go right down the field on 2 TD drives and then just stop for no apparent reason. Mafah could've sat that game honestly and he better sit this weekend, he obviously isn't 100%. This offense is going to stay like this until they open it back and stretch the field again like they were doing before Louisville.

CK2 got sacked five times. 5 times.

I can’t fathom how many times that he’d have gotten sacked if Pitt had lost any concern about the run game.

Face it. With our first four … yes, I said 4 … options in the LT rotation to pass protect for CK2, then our OL was destined to play very poorly. Leigh #1 LT, out. Sadler #2 LT, out. Thurman #3 LT, out. Marcus Tate #4 option at LT, out. We had to move Blake Miller from RT to play LT. Then, we had to move W.Parks from RG to RT (a position that he had not played since 2021 season). Ultimately, we had to play a not great option in T.Howard to play LG.

If we didn’t try to establish the run game, then we’d have probably given up 10 sacks and CK2 would have gotten a concussion.

No, it wasn’t simply the effort starting Q2 to commit to the run that hurt us. I think we are too predictable in 3rd and short and 4th and short situations; we almost always try a running play (usually Mafah, sometimes CK2) or maybe a short pass to Mafah or (less commonly, Briningstool). We are very predictable in this situation. Prior to Pitt game, our opponents had 9 games to study the film and our offensive tendencies.

Dear Coaching Staff,

Mix it up a little bit.
