oldest is in daycare, had great teachers up till this point.
one of her teachers has left, new mom etc. whatever. the daycare has replaced her with a dude. is this weird? feels pretty fuggin weird to me
I really want to talk to the director lady and be like, why da funk is a working age male working in a 2 yr old daycare room? Is that too aggressive? AITA / am I over reacting?

Explain why a dude is any less qualified. Is he a dad at least?

probably initially have the same. But if the place is well run, organized, plenty of staff, etc I would think that is WAY more important than the presence of a dude. I'd imagine the other workers are watching him pretty carefully.
Lunge answer: Is he cute or what?

idk, maybe i'm old school.
place is very well run, very organized, and plenty of staff. he started kind of as a rover, of sorts, to help cover for those who are out.
looks to pretty young. fat AF, tbh. has a degree from a school in Beaufort, SC actually in childhood development or something like that.

Fat AF and wanting to work with 2 year olds would be Strike 1 and 2. If he's also into Star Wars and/or knives/swords you know what you're dealing with. Anime would be a big indicator too, I'd be stalking that MFers social media like it was my job.

with a guy. He said he is usually with the older kids but asked him to cover the room every now and then.
It's different, but I don't think it's weird. And probably some good experience of the kids interacting with an older male that isn't family.

there is not one sane normal human male that would spend one week in a 2yr-old daycare facility. The pay would have to be life-changing to even consider it.
I'm trying to think what it would take for me to do that job. Even a $1mil/year might not be enough.

If they don't have any skin in the game (ie a kid who is part of the program they're leading), I'm automatically skeptical of dude (particularly young dude) sports coaches, youth ministers, scout leaders, and yeah.....day care workers. I'm not saying they're all, or even mostly, bad, but I'm watching them like a MF hawk until they make the circle of trust.

looking for something to do gave me sexual predator vibes. Based on my experience with Young Life in high school, I wouldn't be surprised if their main goal as an organization was to give sexual predators better access to minors.

It comes off as a touch queer... take that however you want.
In this world, I would be uncomfortable with it. Happy that the wife stays at home with my croblins - at least I know what kind of crazy person is watching them.

Yeah, that is weird. There isn't one male teacher in my kids' daycare.

And I don't think I've even heard of a male daycare teacher. I agree with Obed that I'd be extremely wary of him. I agree with KenM that the organization is important.
I would talk to the director. If nothing else, she might keep a closer eye on him. She can't fire him because he is a man but I would be proactive.

it should not be an issue in this day and age, but absolutely you should have thoughts on it. don’t think it’s an issue just to kindly mention - as a dad. you’re just getting clarification and not causing a stir, you’re just nicely, while smiling, you are just mentioning and would like to have your concerns alleviated. let’s them know you are aware and you’re head is on a swivel.
you can also pick up your little dressed like this on the daily

If it is a boy - he'll be indoctrinated very quickly. Baseball today - tea parties tomorrow kinda stuff.
You pay decent money for this care ?
Did they tell you he was moving into the open slot ? Or did you have to find it out on your own ?

yes, it's through my wifes employer on their campus
yes they just told us which is how I found out. he's been there for a while, mostly w/ the older kids, as a rover or what not. he's officially one of the teachers in the 2 yr old classroom now that this other lady has left.

Outstanding teacher. Was way more engaging with the kids on the playground & actually organized them into something that looked like a sport.
His mom was also a great teacher, who helped establish the charter school our kiddo attended after pre-k. His dad was a well-known news radio guy in GA. Came from a super sharp family.
I mean, it may seem weird b/c of social norms, but young kids---particularly male, IMO---need to see more men in early childhood education. And I bet I could Google-up some pretty good stats to back that up, if you'd like.
This worry or whatever seems like a corner you can turn, pretty quick.
