Our best lb still hasnt committed

Jun 3, 2013, 11:20 PM

I thought the same last year that Boulware was a better prospect than O'Daniel last year. It showed more when better talent was on the same field. This year I think Kendall Joseph is better than either lb already committed. And other than RM he is the best lb recruit hands down. I just hope he has a committable offer. Would be a huge mistake to pass on this kid. I think not enough is brought up on this kid. If you don't believe me watch his tape compared to Register and Rodgers.

Yeah I can see where you are coming from. The big knock on Joseph is his speed. Register and Rogers are big, fast linebackers (I think Register runs in the 4.5s or 4.6s, and so does Rogers). Joseph ran a 4.9 at the Shrine Bowl Combine. I believe this is why the other two are more highly touted (because if you look at stats, Joseph is a monster with 120+ tackles).

Having said that, KJ is a gamer. He has really good game speed and man will he rock the ball carrier. I agree that he is underrated, and I'm pretty sure he will commit to us and that he has a commit-able offer. I think we will take him, and we are looking at Raekwon as our oversign candidate.

I can see us signing Register, Rogers, Joseph, and McMillan in February, which would undoubtedly give us the number one LB class once again. Reload.

RM is an oversign.

Not sure, really. Boulware is going to be chided because he doesn't have prototypical speed.

O'Daniel is a fluid athlete at the LB position who can immediately contribute at the WILL position.

I can definitely see why he was rated higher. More athleticism+more NFL upside = better ranking.

Now - Boulware could very well have a more productive career. But I can see the justification.

I agree he does have a slower speed, but in the middle it doesnt matter as much as on the outsides. He hits hard and has great instincts. Dewayne allens knock was he was a 4.7 40 but you see the production. Alot of speed isnt worth crap if you cant bring the guy down. But i see your point, dont get me wrong im thrilled to have Register and Rogers.

I disagree a little with you. Example: anthony has all the speed and strength, but guess who was starting in the middle, Shuey!! Not because he has more talent, but because he knows how to play. Same goes for steward (understand the injuries, but i think he still hasnt shown up to his 5* rating) has more talent than any other lb. Id love for both to be great though just saying sometimes 40's and verticals dont do certain players justice. Thats all!!

You are comparing linebackers that play different positions - recruit evaluation is an inexact science even when you are objective - none have gotten on campus - recruiting experts think otherwise.

Just wondering, but which linebacker recruits have you actually seen play in person or for a full game on film?

I have watched many of our recruits whole games. O'Daniel alot of his games were on espn. He looked like a better rb than lb to me. Also the army all american game. Boulware saw him in the shrine bowl, under armor, and a lot of game footage. My dad is a d line coach for clover high. Ive seen a couple of grayson high school games(internet) checking out wayne and rn and carter. By the way wayne is a better lb than rb to me, and he is a good rb. Also, carter is a ball hawk and packs a good punch. So, im not saying im a expert by any imagination, but with that said i can recognize good players and when they can be productive.

You're mixing classes.

Joseph would be in the class with Register, Rogers and hopefully McMillan.

Have you seen them?

Rivals has them all rated higher than Joseph.

I agree with you that - to me and I'm no recruiting expert or football coach - but Gallman looks better as a linebacker and O'Daniel looks better as a runningback, but I'm not a professional, whose job depends on it - just an old man that's watched alot of football.

While Boulware is to me a Keith Brooking type player

Jun 4, 2013, 10:35 PM

that by no means makes him better than a sizeable OLB that can run, tackle and cover.

They both can develop IQ but what you are comparing is instincts versus athletic ability.

Sorry brother but on 3rd and long a mistake in instincts can be covered by athletic ability, which means O'Daniel is the every down lb, as he has size, too.

Athletic ability dont mean crap if your out of postion. Stephone Anthony says hello. listen im not saying that O'Daniel is junk by anymeans. I'm just saying I think boulware is a better lb. Same as Rogers and Register they are great athletes I would just hate to see a guy like Joesph get overlooked. Thats all Im saying.

Im just saying what i saw last year and relating it to this year. I have seen alot of film on joesph because he is from sc, but not as much on Register or Rogers because they are from nc and ga. Im just a young kid who cant go a hour without looking up some kind of football!! Lol. So you got some years on me!! It looks to me like with venables here he might be looking to bring in a 3-4 scheme. With pagano and almost adams this last class and all of the lb's its starting to make me wonder if thats were we are headed.

Comparing Boulware and O'Daniel is like comparing Shuey and Anthony. Sometimes ya just never know who's going to get it and respond quicker. Its always good to have these problems tho, in the end I believe all will be great in they're own right.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Venables lovs KJ and I believe we'll land him

Jun 5, 2013, 11:32 AM

RM is an oversign but even if we don't get him the three we have are very very good players that will help us greatly moving forward. We lose Shuey, QC after this year and Jones, Steward and Anthony after next year so we'll be in big need of high level talent in a year or two.
