I can't believe Trump's treatment of Ukraine and allies is how MAGA wants the US

to be. I'm sure a lot of them think other countries are taking advantage of our military and economic strength. I'm sure the NATO defense funding issue is frustrating. Europe's use of Russian fossil fuels is frustrating. And I'm sure there are opportunities for greater trade, etc.

But the downright mafia-like approach. Is this really what you want people to think about with America? Pure quid-pro-quo? Pure mercenary? Pure "What's in it for me?" Like the cabinet members' comments about attacking the Houthis and about how they better get paid for it. This is what we are now? "B$*#& better have my money."?

In the latest proposal to Ukraine, apparently Trump has INCREASED his demands in exchange for...well...nothing that I can see (can someone please clarify if anything is offered aside from the assumption that we won't let anyone invade a country we basically own?).

https://www.thetimes.com/uk/defence/article/ukraine-war-russia-uk-trump-ceasefire-sanctions-r87mvgj7x?region=global

From the link:

The deal proposes transferring all of Ukraine’s mineral resources, including oil and gas, as well as important Ukrainian energy infrastructure, into a joint investment fund. The income would be split between the US and Ukraine. The US would appoint three of the five board members, giving the White House overall control of the fund.

Under the plan, leaked to the Financial Times, the US would control infrastructure linked to natural resources “including, but not limited to, roads, rail, pipelines and other transportation assets; ports, terminals and other logistics facilities and refineries, processing facilities, natural gas liquefaction and/or regasification facilities and similar assets”.

It states that America will receive all the royalties from Ukrainian assets until the country has paid off at least $100 billion of war debt, with four per cent interest added.

We are basically telling them that they have to give away their country to us...for nothing...while Russia continues to bomb their cities. Effectively, Russia is providing the pressure for the US. We are basically business partners but like the Mafia, where we will hurt you until you sign our deal.

Have we no shame?

Do MAGA people really wake up in the morning and feel good about being Americans?

Anyway, easy for me to say but if I'm Ukraine, I certainly don't sign this deal. I would string Trump along for as long as you can and placate him for as long as you can get away with it. Don't do anything to make him lift sanctions on Russia out of spite. Despite what the administration says, this economic relationship certainly does not protect Ukraine. If Russia invaded in a year, we could very easily shrug our shoulders...sure, there might be a chance for squeezing Ukraine for money, but it's not like we had any money in it anyway. And Putin could easily assure Trump that he'll get a BETTER deal when Russia countrols the whole of Ukraine...and that's all it would take. There is no underlying sense of right-and-wrong. There is no underlying morality to anything Trump is doing.

Hopefully at the midterms the Democrats can take Congress back (I never thought I would say that) and they can take back their rightful power to levy tariffs and...I don't know...take full control over sanctions policies (is that normally a Congressional responsibility?).

All the while increasing tensions with China.

Seems like the US is on the road to isolationism and significant economic recession. The bully approach to former Allies may not play out in our favor _ especially given the public, in your face approach of Trump’s administration. The citizens of independent, sovereign nations simply will not allow their leaders unilateral acquiescence to Trump. Other countries will be willing to incur hardship as opposed to surrender. The question is how willing are Americans ready to suffer economic consequences before rejecting MAGA? And even if the majority of US citizens reject MAGA, has democracy eroded to the extent that peaceful transition of leadership is possible?

Ukraine in a way that doesn’t show us to be exploitive opportunists without the least interest in who is right and who is wrong. I would disagree but understand that policy.

“We condemn Russia’s unprovoked attack against its neighbor and call for the return of the 1991 borders, but I simply cannot ask the American people to spend billions on this war while their federal government is in debt.”

Short-sighted? I think so. Embarrassing? A little…we like to think we are the ones that keep the peace. But at least it would align with a broad moral centering of American ideals. But this? Lies about their leaders? Insults? Horrible deals and pressure while they are being bombed by Russia? It’s disgusting.

It will take a long time to overcome the damage this President is doing. I know you can’t see that but I suspect you will.

Our DUTY, at minimum, is to not make their cause worse in favor of the aggressor.

It's been told to you 100 times, and you either can't read or are just choosing to disregard it, but there options other than:

1)PAY FOR THE WHOLE THING
- and -
2)CALL UKRAINE THE AGGRESSOR AND PUBLICLY INSULT THE UKRAINE.

And I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you know that, you just are too far down the sunk-cost road to allow your brain to admit Trump handled this horribly and did a major disservice to our reputation globally.
