4. UNC
5. NCS
6. UVA
7. Duke
8. One from all the rest

All of these probably have a home in either the SEC, B1G or Big 12. A lot of moving parts but it would be nice to see them try and pull something together.

It's a little more complicated than that. The 8 you refer to are all jockeying for position in a new conference.....not sure we can trust the tobacco road schools either, btw.

Nobody is going to vote to dissolve the ACC to go to the Big 12.

I guess it depends on if they want to put forth some effort to try and have some say in their own destiny or just wait for someone else to tell them what it is.

I agree it is a long shot but would love to see them get in a room and at least chew it over.

It is beneficial to get out of the grant of rights and ride out the near future in the Big XII.

It is just a matter of time until the SEC and Big Ten devolve and the upper teams (TV value) form a new conference where revenue is maximized.

You don’t want to be stuck in a GOR when that happens.

No it's not. It's much better for schools like Pitt and Syracuse to be in the current ACC than it is to be in a cobbled together Big 12.

I hear the ESPN / ACC deal has a 15 member threshold. Two are on the way out. It may only take a couple more and ESPN decides to end it.
Plus there is some talk ESPN could opt out of the last 9 years next Feb.

Replace UVA and Duke here with Louisville, Pitt, and Va Tech, and have those 8 reform as a new football-centric league. They could commit to a shorter-term (5 year) compact with a vastly improved media rights deal over that span while the larger CFB landscape unfolds. Recruit West Va into the mix for a 9-team set-up, 8 game schedule, and do a deal with ND for 4 annual games, similar to now.

This cuts the smaller, less vested footballers out of the equation and concentrates resources to those programs that provide the biggest national draws. UVA and GT might even support the dissolution as they would make for decent B1G additions - or they could partner with the other leftovers and reconstitute similarly - adding a few more regional programs to fill out a larger structure. Think USF, UConn, Temple, Memphis maybe.
