Dabo had his 5 year losing streak to S.Carolina begin in 2009 season.
That streak ended in the 2014 season, a year in which we lost (again) to GA Tech.
That Clemson AD didn’t fire Dabo prior to 2015 was because, starting with 2011 season, Dabo made big adjustments to elevate our program. The fruit of those changes wasn’t fully ripe until 2015.

When one has a sense of entitlement, patience is one of the first virtues to be diminished.
The college FB game is changing in ways that restrict Clemson’s ability to compete at the highest levels. Dabo is extraordinarily agile (mentally and energy-wise) in positioning Clemson FB to navigate those structural changes in CFB so that Clemson remains in a position to compete.
Our entitled fans are too impatient and emotionally driven to step back for a minute or two and contemplate what’s going on in the world of CFB.
(Hint: ‘Using the portal’ is not a thoughtful statement or piece of advice. ‘Using the portal’ is analogous to be beeching at Danta Claus to bring more and better toys.)

Again, it goes to this idea that so many Clemson folks have lost a sense of proportion around the football program.
Nobody expects basketball to win anything. But a good number of fans not only want and expect football to win everything, but to win everything in dominating fashion. No mistakes, no bad plays, games, or play calls.

Pick that head up out the sand before you run out of air haha come on man… are we happy about the opportunity, absolutely and hope we take advantage of it… but to act like this program has not regressed big time (especially on defense) you aren’t paying attention … and if you wanna talk about trending look at recruiting for 2 seconds … again I’ll be super happy to win the acc and make the tourney but if you don’t see it “trajectory” I don’t know what to tell you… we just lost to a subpar instate rival 2 of the last 3 years , one that we had way more talent than but coaching cost us. I think a few changes in philosophy and a couple better hires and we are talking about actually competing in the playoffs… do you have any confidence that this team with a wins at can go to oh state or nd or Penn state and win a game ?!

I thought I had appealed to the facts. The idea is to win football games. This team has won nine of them, has won more ACC games than all but one other ACC team. And after Saturday I believe this team will have won 10 (which will be another worthy milestone) games, and will have another ACC crown, and another CFP berth.

Our W/L record from 2021-2024 is worse even than the 2011-2014 stretch when Dabo was building the program, much less our peak from 2015-2020.
2015-2020: 79-7 (92%)
2021-2024: 39-13 (75%)
Of those ACC titles you talk about playing for, almost all of them were during our peak. When speaking of a program in decline you need to draw some kind of line establishing the peak to separate it from the decline. Including stats from our peak years to defend our performance in the last 4 years of decline makes absolutely no sense.
2015-2020: 6 ACC titles in 6 years
2021-2024: 1, perhaps 2 ACC titles in 4 years
Similar to the above, we've played for 0 national titles so far since 2020 after playing for 6 in a row. We have a chance to change that next weekend thanks to the expanded playoff. Under the 4 team playoff rules we would've likely been eliminated a month ago with the loss to Louisville.
2015-2020: 6 CFP appearances
2021-2024: 0 or 1 CFP appearances (would've been 0 under old rules)
Recruiting is also trending way down. Our blue chip ratio is falling very quickly as we take more and more fallback 3* kids. We are also landing far fewer 5* kids and those are often the ones that can be program-changing (Watson, Lawrence, Wilkins, Big Dex, Higgins, Hyatt, etc).
Clemson football hasn't fallen off the map yet, but I don't know how you can possibly argue that it isn't in decline right now.

And so you join the chorus of others who find the Tigers of today inadequate when compared to the Tigers of recent years.
I find it a bit naive to single out a specific team and compare it to the body of work of a whole host of other teams, because football is not played in a vacuum and exists in time and space.
In other words, things change. And nothing has changed more ridiculously than college football since 2015.
Back then, it took 12-0 and a conference title to make the 4-team CFP. And Clemson rose to the occasion many of those years.
Goodie.
These days, 10-3 with a conference title will do just fine to make the CFP.
And this team may soon accomplish that.
And since winning is ultimately the point, the Tigers are winning at a .750 clip this year. I'm sorry that is not good enough for you. It is plenty good enough for me.

Everyone was howling for Bowden’s head.
Wake had destroyed us and we had perennial Top 5 FSU and a good S.Carolina team looming … to be played at the Kook Pit.
Tigers whooped FSU, beat down the Kooks 63 - 17, and then whooped #6 Tennessee in the Peach Bowl.
It’s college football, folks. The experience factor is dynamic, in that players who play poorly early in the season often figure it out and play well late in the season.
That’s why post season games always have the potential to be special.
It’s coming. Enjoy it.

My how our standards have fallen so quickly. Now we’re comparing the HC that’s paid 11 mill a year… 2nd highest in all the land to a guy that never won more than 9 games in a season and was fired in the middle of the season after losing at WF… just smh

I think the point is that this team is playing for another conference title, and could still play for another national title depending on how the conference title game goes.
I had really tried to be clear in my OP. I feel like I've failed.

I will completely enjoy it. I am thrilled we squeezed in and I am looking forward to Saturday night. I am just a realist about the big picture at the moment as well.
