Onsides explanation...

Dec 6, 2015, 7:37 PM

I read that the offsides was called due to a formation issue. Supposedly there has to be at least 4 players lined up on each side of the kicker. Since UNC had 2 kickers out there and the far guy was the one that kicked it there were only 3 guys left on that side. Anyone know if this is true? Either way great win. Can't wait for the playoffs....

Nothing has been posted about this yet.

No.

You can't have 2 kickers. Whoever kicks the ball is the kicker for that play. There were enough guys lined up on both sides of him.

Just drop it.

It would be nice to see an official explanation from the ACC

Dec 6, 2015, 8:01 PM

There has been a ton of speculation nationwide about what happened on the call and just for final clarification, I think the ACC should make a statement as to what exactly happened ... even if that statement is nothing more than "We're sorry UNC fans, our man blew it."

The official was perfectly in a position crouched down right on the line and he saw the play transpire from the ideal vantage point ... something not afforded anyone else who has had an opinion one way or the other.

He threw his flag immediately when the play began as if he was certain he saw the transgression instantaneously.

Why ... exactly ... was the flag thrown?

What is the explanation of the official who made the call?

Does the league office back him up on it?

Or is it a situation where the league says "Sometimes even the best officials make mistakes." ?

Just put it to rest ... either vindicate the opinion of Clemson fans, or UNC fans or just say Ooops!

there was an official explanation

you can't admit to being wrong when you weren't......

http://abc11.com/sports/fans-react-to-controversial-call-in-acc-championship/1111668/

In a statement, the ACC said that the play could not be reviewed.

"Offsides is not a reviewable play," said the spokesperson. "Dennis Hennigan (ACC director of officiating) said that mechanically the officials were in the correct position. The rule as it relates to to an onside kick that the 35-yard line is treated as a plane and if any part of a player breaks that plane before the ball is kicked it's offsides. The officials saw a member of the kicking team break the plane before the ball was kicked."

Ok, cool! ... that should put an end to the whole thing.

Unfortunately, the nation as a whole either has not seen this official statement or they choose to ignore it.

I hate it when media and opposing fans are able to perpetuate an issue like this.

That could be part of it, but it's mostly The rule in attached and a picture to back it up.

But I've heard it could of also been bc of the kicker kicking leaving just 3 lined up. So 2 penalties ??
