Only pack one suit for the weekend

Grew up a Clemson fan in the triangle area in the 1980s and 90s. I was one of those kids in school that got to watch the ACC tournament in science class. I remember driving to Greensboro to catch the 8/9 tournament playin game (usually against FSU) with my old man. Tickets were just basically given away and the stands were pretty much empty.
Growing up a Clemson fan in the triangle was tough back then, you had Valvano, Smith, K, and Odom ruling basketball.
Other than the Ellis and the Barnes years, Eldin Campbell, Dale Davis, and Greg Buckner things were rough for Clemson basketball.
The running joke back then was that the Clemson head coach never packed more than one suit for the weekend because they knew they were coming home that Thursday night and wouldn’t play on Friday.
I’m not a Brownell fan, but look ahead to now, and we have come a long way. So for that I am happy.
The two schools of thought are- can he keep it going and build on it? Or is he the Tommy Bowden that got us halfway there, and we need someone else to get us the rest of the way?

I think it’s kind of the the great poet once wrote. “Whoa we’re living on a prayer, whoa we’re halfway there…

Did Brownell elevate the program or did the majority of the ACC end up moving into our neighborhood?

The Ellis years when we can only claim 2 NCAA Tournaments in 10 years?

We went 1-2 in those two tournaments.

The Sweet 16 year was wiped from the record books due to NCAA sanctions.

With so much future NBA talent, you would think he would’ve accomplished more here.

Those are the glory days, huh?

Brownell has accomplished more than Ellis, but our fans don’t seem to care. I have to wonder how much of people’s fond memories of Ellis are due to the passage of time.
