Deep fried 20 of the best-looking Lake Wylie cats from the tires I set. They looked great, nice light grey meat just no real taste. Won't bother with any fish from the Catawba chain again (cept James). Boy, I was really looking forward to some nice fried catfish, oh well.

I must have gotten a hold of some bad ones because the last time I ate catfish I got sick as a dog. Has turned me off of fish all together. I do better with pig and cows!!

The majority of catfish sold commercially is farm raised. All that I have ever purchased and fried has been really good.

Dont eat them all at once before checking the google box about it. There are usually advisories about mercury and such out of the Catawba system.

Definitely not a fish aficionado by any stretch but why would it not taste good? But would taste good somewhere else.
I do remember that fish camp on lake keowee about 10 miles from Seneca had the best fried catfish and froglegs I've had. That was early/mid 80's.

If you don't cut the red meat out of the catfish, they are nasty tasting. However, if they are small, there is no red meat. Don't know why they were tasteless. Use plenty of seasoning and corn meal next time.
