Hopefully Dabo gets us back to rolling where we’re winning the acc championship most years and competing in the cfp.
Also, if and when we leave the acc, I think that will give us an uptick in recruiting too.

Yes, Jarrett was an awesome 2 star recruit, but how many 2 star recruits turn out to be a Grady Jarrett? Not many and Clemson won't always be the one that saw something in a recruit that nobody else saw, so using Grady as a 2 star to brag about is a waste of time!!!

...to post-covid recruiting.
What people forget is that the people writing these articles aren't "experts". They're self-proclaimed no-it-all's, that's it. They've never coached a college football game, or run a program.
NOBODY knows how the Transfer Portal is going to work out, you pick up one kid up and lose one just as fast. You live and die by the sword, it's like a quick shot of adrenalin. See FSU's roster change. How's South Carolina's roster looking?, etc....
Clemson has all of the ingredients to be successful over the long-haul. Miami at #7, really? What proof do the experts have that the NIL and transfer portal have turned Miami around? Laughable. None. Just like they have zero proof that when the dust settles Dabo, and Clemson don't have elite potential.
I don't need some no-nothing sports "journalist" telling me what to think about Clemson's recruiting ability, or cache.
Idiots.

If they were as good as they thought they were about recruiting top talent, they would be somewhere doing the recruiting for some top school.

We will look back and see what FSU did last yr isn't gonna be the norm. Recruiting and Culture have the staying power. Not using the portal to find money grabbers and players that couldn't win the starting position. Dabo knows what he is doing.. Not saying there aren't any good players in the portal, just not many that fit Dabo's culture. Go Tigers!!

I'm not 100% sure on what "recruiting potential" means to these people. I assumed that they would drop Clemson because our head coach has limited the avenues by which he focuses his recruiting efforts...in other words, he pays little attention to the portal. It would stand to reason that this would result in a reduction in our potential recruiting ability. I accept that.
But then, this quote:
"Clemson had a bit of an identity crisis in 2023, but Dabo Swinney continues to compete with SEC schools on the recruiting trail," said The Athletic's Grace Raynor. "As long as he can convince recruits to ignore what his critics say about his thoughts around NIL and the transfer portal, Swinney should have a seat at the table with any player he wants. Despite the program’s recent struggles, this era of recruits still grew up watching Swinney and the Tigers dominate the sport."
First, I don't believe Clemson has any identity crisis. I think we know exactly who we are.
Second, I'm not sure what makes everyone think Dabo's program is lagging in NIL. We have a collective. Dabo isn't inhibiting (to my knowledge?) anyone's ability to sign NIL deals.
And finally, why would a recruit care about Dabo's opinion on the transfer portal? If you're talking to a high school kid and his family, is that kid thinking "Yeah, but how hard are you going to work to replace me with an existing college player? I need to know that you're willing to do that before I join your program." ??? On the (apparently) rare occasion that Dabo might recruit a transfer portal player...if Dabo is talking to you, do you care that he rarely uses the portal?
That doesn't make any sense to me.

I love how they cite all these other programs that's done less with more. What most of these people fail to understand is we're more like an independent.

Dabo doesn't want to be everything to everyone. He's been very clear what the mission is. it's about growing the players up to deal with life in the future. Teaching respect, dignity, character and work ethic. Winning is the icing.

Clemson's football potential for recruits is as good as it has ever been under Dabo. 1st. Dabo/Clemson does not even "attempt" to sign every 5-star or 4-star player who do not fit the culture. That's critical to understand. 2nd. As the article stated, "these kids grew up watching Clemson dominate". But so did H.S. coaches and Uncles and so on. 3rd. Clemson last I checked was 9th out of 147 schools in NIL dollars. And, I think we maybe moved up since then. So, Dabo's(again the school isn't funding the NIL deal) stance really doesn't come into play as a negative i.m.o as it relates to NIL. 4th. What coach wants to see their best players leave via the portal. It's not just Dabo. Dabo has had kids stay on campus; which is why he hasn't had to rely on the portal. It's a total myth about his stance on the portal; although it's fair to say he isn't a huge fan. He does and has tried to use it for positions of need( OL and QB and DE but kids went to other schools over Clemson).

… and I like what Dabo recently said regarding NIL … “we have NIL, but we use it for player retention”
I take that to mean we’re not going to get into a bidding war and pay players to come here, but once you fit our culture, commit, and join the team, THEN we’ll spend NIL dollars to keep you here going forward.
That rewards players for coming to our program based on the totality of what Clemson offers to develop players as men.
Frankly, those are the kinds of players I want Clemson to attract because it implies that they commit with their mind and heart, and not just their wallet.
Go Tigers!!

Clemson’s Current Position in Football Recruiting
The Clemson football program, under the leadership of Dabo Swinney, has evolved into a powerhouse in the world of college football recruiting. The Tigers have consistently been one of the top recruiting schools in the country.
In the 2024 recruiting cycle, Clemson has shown its prowess by securing a strong class of recruits. This includes five-star freshman linebacker Sammy Brown, who has already made a significant impact on the field4. The 2024 class also includes 22 committed players, with 13 enrollees and 9 players who have signed their letter of intent.
Despite not having a top 5 class in recent years, Clemson consistently recruits in the top 15. The 2023 class is a prime example of why rankings don’t always reflect the true potential of a class, with that class performing among the top in the country.
Clemson’s 2025 class is shaping up to be a strong one, currently ranked as a consensus top 5 class, with most having the Tigers in the top 35. This includes a crystal ball prediction to land the No. 2 overall player in the class.
In conclusion, Clemson continues to compete with the best in the nation on the recruiting trail. Despite facing some challenges, the Tigers’ recruiting potential remains among the best in the country.

Clemson has anything but an "identity crisis". You can say Dabo is wrong if you want but he certainly isn't uncertain about what he intends to do.
