There's something in these hills.

I don't think the portal is the issue...

It's the rule change allowing you to play immediately instead of sitting out a year that's causing the problems we are seeing.

After Covid I think players could transfer without restriction as often as they wanted between any levels of NCAA football. For 2023-24 they made it a one time transfer between D1 schools w/o sitting out. And they seem to have enforced it. Hopefully that is a precursor to reinstating a one year of sitting out between any intra-D1 transfers. The schools that this would benefit would far outweigh those benefiting from the present system so it should pass easily. Hopefully as the last class with bonus covid eligibility leaves in 2025 this will come to pass. It will severely dampen the appetite for large NIL deals for transfers and will put an emphasis on identifying and recruiting talent directly from high school - something our head coach excels at.

Reverting back to the old rule...

where EVERYONE got five years to play four would remedy A LOT of the problems IMO.

If a player wants to transfer, that's fine, but you sit out one year before being eligible to play. No exceptions or dispensations. It's fair and it applies equally and consistently to everyone.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

if I remember correctly it all started w/ lawsuits or the threat of them......

The "exceptions" to the rules started w/ Fields and the racists remarks by a baseball player...................I think there was a situation w/ a sick family member of a VT player that came was on the table as an "exception" at some point.

As toothless as they are the NCAA reached the point to where "it wasn't worth it"..........just let it happen.

SAME with NIL..........courts got involved and there's no turning back now.

the NCAAs revision of the transfer rules was one of the most insanely idiotic blunders ever committed, and the member schools should have revolted en masse over it. Terrible, terrible for the schools. In the long run equally bad for most athletes using it.

I couldn't agree more with this assessment.
