Ok I just read the news about Sammy and have read some

of the posts. Here's my 2 cents...he did wrong and will suffer the consequences, as he should. I just want to know the Barney Fife ####### who wanted to make national news? I think many of us have been pulled over with a few too many to drink and the police let us go. Not saying, the police should have let him go.....I just feel if it was John Smith that was pulled over for the same thing, in many cases the police would scold them and let them go. It happens all the time. I'm not condoning what he did, but feel this was more "let me make national news" than doing the right thing. Like a license check....you could set one up right outside any bar at any time and arrest d@mn near everybody that comes out of there. I have several friends in law enforcement and they said even though the officer did the right thing, he has the luxury of saying...."Don't do this again and take your a$$ home." Again Sammy shouldn't have put himself in this position and will pay for it....but I feel a bored campus officer that probably makes $14/hr was trying to create news.
Let the hate begin...

So, you think Barney would have let John Smith and his

passenger off after it was determined that both were holding? That is utterly ridiculous...If one of them hadn't been a high profile athlete, they would have both caught a beating...

would've been let go. It's just my opinion, but i think the motive was more to make news than to do the right thing. Again Sammy did wrong and will pay. Like I said, how many times have we been pulled over after drinking and the officer knows it, only to let us go. How many times have we heard about celebrities being arrested for things I just mentioned. It isn't news if you arrest me.

sumbitch in the world. Point being, you're a helluva lot more impaired/dangerous behind the wheel drinking than you are smoking....and 2 pills? Really? I don't smoke or do pills, but I will stand by MY OPINION that this was more because of who he was than an officer doing the right thing.

i do know a few, and some more than once. none of them were carrying more than 1 or two " blunts". but they got scolded and let go- minus the pot- they had to squish it in the ground in front of the police officer.

Oh hell. Then you'd have a situation. Think about it. Clemson police let Watkins get away with posession of marijuana, Adderol, and another pill in his car after he brushed up against a curb driving... What would the world say about the university as a whole?
I get what you're saying, but it might just be better to let the kid get his punishment and get on with it... Maybe he'll learn something and realize how powerful he is, what the cost of his actions are... Maybe the police had his and the university's best interest at heart...

they've already notified the dispatch desk and their audio/video cams are running. Cops can't pull you over anymore and "let you off with a warning" as easily as they used to.
Barney was doing his job.

staggering and berrating the officer? If not, yes you can let someone off with a warning....regardless of dispatch and whatever else.

I retract that statement. I wasnt thinking about the consequences for the officer if it had leaked. However, what Clemson fan in his right mind would have ratted out an officer?

saying the officer did wrong. I'm saying he has the luxury of letting someone off with a warning for a misdemeanor.....which they often exercise against the John Smiths of the world.

On the other hand, if the officer had done nothing and the person(s) he let go got into some other trouble, the officer could be held liable for not performing his duty as a representative of the law.
Also, the police did not make this a national story.
