IMO there's a really big gap between #2 and #3

Cade wasn't even a top 50 QB last year. Alot of our passing numbers ranked in the 100s out of 130ish teams.
I think "same old Cade" results in a 4-5 loss season, but if he can improve even to a top 25ish level, this team should be able to hang around with just about anyone and likely win 10 games.

I'm thinking there is an opportunity for same ol Cade without the same ol WR play and same ol Oline play to put up much better numbers and win 10+ games so I don't think the gap is as large as it seems.

talent. For instance if we don't have a WR that can make YAC style moves on every pass or if we don't have and ETN that can turn chicken s__t into Chicken salad then are we just spinning our wheels? ETN busted some runs out of for sure dead plays even in the championship years. Mafah is not that type of runner. He requires a head of steam and a hole to get chunk yardage.
And i recall our receivers not being able to get separation and not being able to make a move and get big yards after the catch. Has that changed this season?

while he was alongside Trevor Lawrence....but I think that Travis ETN was among the very best running backs in college football history. He did not put up crazy numbers, Dabo refuses to let players get gaudy numbers in blowouts because he plays everyone possible and records/numbers be ######. Plus blowing people out so much and not needing to over-extend players is always a good thing.

His per-carry numbers through his JR year

were off the charts. I don't think you're going to find many backs in CFB history that averaged 7.8ypc with 500 career carries. I wouldn't say he ever ran behind truly elite OLs either.
And then 2020 hurt his career numbers quite a bit because our OL was terrible that year and his numbers dropped dramatically across the board.
Still, his career numbers compare very favorably with Reggie Bush yet it doesn't seem like Etienne was ever considered to be in that tier of RB.

I think you need to move Columbia and become Rooster. Last season isn’t all Cade no kicker and lots of drops. The main problem last season OC called vanilla playbook and kept calling the plays that didn’t work.

Probably need an option between 2 and 3, that's where I think he will be and where I think he needs to be for us to keep moving in the right direction.
The "somewhere between 2 and 3" option means Cade takes a step forward, isn't necessarily an All-Conference level QB (because that's essentially what top 15 is.) We need him to be like a top 30 QB. Make good decisions, take care of the football, etc. and maybe as a senior we see that top 10 level player.

Agree - needs to be and definitely should be considered a top 30 QB... that would be ... what.. top quartile for FBS schools? Seems very reasonable.
We've just got to hope that the game slows down for him mentally (yes, blinding glimpse of the obvious).

I mean I don't disagree. Everybody wants their QB to be elite, but those guys don't grow on tress. Ryan Day is apparently some QB whisperer but Kyle McCord was pretty pedestrian for their standards last year.
I don't think it is all that reasonable to expect a huge jump from Cade from what we've seen thus far. Is it possible? Sure, but I'm not seeing it. We need to see progression. Jayden Daniels was basically a castoff from Arizona State and ended up at LSU and it took a couple years but he turned into who he is today. I'm not expecting 4500 yards and 40 TDs from Cade as a junior, but if he takes a big step forward in 2024 we can all be hopeful of that big senior season.

I think Cade does show maturity and improvement, and becomes a better QB. Not quite DW or TL good, but just a notch below.

Stupid take. IF the allegations against Deshaun were true (they still wouldn't make him a sexual "predator", just a bad person), they have NOTHING to do with prowess on the field. Deshaun was a significantly better football player than Trevor in college, close to a one-man team. He also had more success in the NFL than Trevor has had thus far.
You seem to be someone who injects their emotions into a discussion instead of using logic.

A step below TL and DW would be Bryce Young or Tajh. Cade will not be at that level even by the time he graduates. Just don't see it happening. Maybe two steps below. Something like Bo Nix.

Bryce Young was a heisman winner, two-time All-American. He had 8,500 passing yards, 80 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in two seasons as a starter. He added 7 more TDs on the ground. Saying he was a step below TL and DW and on par with Tajh as a college QB is insane. Bryce was one of those elite QBs of the last decade.

Puff and pass. Just kidding you. Probably not fair to mention Cade with those two phenoms, but I’m just hoping he gets to the Cullen Harper level where he plays within himself.
In my memory, Cade gets in trouble when he free lances. Make the safe play (even a loss of yards) and live to make the next play.
Kelley Bryant level would be two step changes too.

Dj is nowhere near the bust of the decade, probably not even Clemson’s bust of the decade. Hunter Johnson was a more disappointing 5 star. Korey foreman is much worse.

Korey Foreman didn't play for us. And Hunter had WAY less hype than DJ did. Most people considered Hunter a stop-gap until Trevor got on campus. DJ was considered the next Deshaun/Trevor. Demarkcus Bowman would be a good argument, but DJ is likely the biggest QB bust in history for Clemson (Willy Korn would also be up there in terms of hype vs results, even if it wasn't his fault entirely).

Until proven differently by on field play, Cade is not good at football and Clemson will continue to suffer because of him, and Dabo's refusal to use the Portal. This season will be a huge disappointment in my opinion.

So you truly believe the number 1 hs QB in his class is not good at football. Most ignorant comment I have seen today. If your line can’t block and your wr don’t get separation as a qb you are not going to shine.

His ranking came from college coaches and recruiters at camps. First poster said he was not good at football not he wasn’t the real number 1 recruit. But to your point I guess taking Trevor number one in nfl draft was a mistake. He should be able to carry the jags just as Cade should be able to carry us. Team matters.

Really doesn't matter what any of us think. Kinda like pre-season polls. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm very optimistic for Cade this year. And for the team as a whole. But that's just me and my optimism.

I do think he will be better this year, but I'm not sure he will be a top 15 QB.
There is a lot of middle ground between where he was last year and being one of the best 15 QBs in the country. I believe he will land somewhere in there.

After watching UGAsports' Cade breakdown youtube vid that was posted here recently, I voted for same ol' Cade. If you don't watch the entire 55 minute vid, at least watch the breakdown of the spring game. He's making the same reads and decisions as last year.

It depends on what you mean by same old Cade. What I saw in the end of our bowlgame last year was that for just a few plays "They let her rip potato chip" with some great downfield plays that got the offense out of the dink and dunk pas game they suffered with all season and Cade look pretty danged good.

Bad poll. I think Cade is between option 2 and 3. I'd be shocked if he's top 15, but I do think he'll likely be improved and be between 20-40. Top 5 is impossible because that would mean we're blowing teams out and Dabo would pull him. DJ would still likely be a worse bust since he lost with a lot more surrounding talent.
