As I recall, the same observations regarding play calling occurred last yr with TE. I believe it was stated the OC calls the plays with the HC able to override as he did in the NC State game when he called the DJ bootleg resulting in a TD.
Couple interesting tidbits from last evenings radio broadcast. Bouret noted ND had not lost a reg season game to an ACC opponent since 19'. Munson laughed noting all the more reason to join the league. Bouret seriously noted there are influential alumni pushing for such since it would be their easiest road to the playoffs. To me, if this is how the league is viewed, and it is, we need out now. When Dabo made the statement "he enjoys theses big game atmospheres and venues," we need a change and he knows it. My fear is we will start recruiting and playing to our competition.
Dont agree with putting Cade in under the circumstances last evening, but Bouret noted his "Brett Farve mentality" repetitively occurs in practice resulting in similar mistakes and its holding him back. On the flip side, improvement obviously comes with more reps and experience thru PT.
Lastly, interesting comments from Donnell Clark and Reggie M - "let DJ play - "cut him loose." Obviousy have a gameplan but quit scripting the plays and let him call the game as he sees the defense. It was mop up duty, but much like he did in the 4th qtr. Dont overanalyze - just play. Not sure if our QBs have the prerogative or ability to audibilize or not but would be an interesting question for D Hood to ask Dabo.
One of my concerns last nite was why did it take us three qtrs to realize we needed to get rid of the ball quick on slants and throw over the middle when they were one on one. Give the receivers a chance.
Anyway, the skys not falling. We'll be back. Might be the best thing for all of us - coaches , players and fans alike who have gotten a little complacent. I will always be all in!! Go Tigers!!!
