I am starting to wonder. I was thinking he would be an absolute stud perennial ProBowl player, but.... I realize that organization sucks, but man..
As far as the organization, they make the worst picks. That trade for Travis Hunter was ridiculously bad. Even ETN in the first round when they needed so much was ridiculous.
Anyway, is TL getting in bust territory. I think he needs a new team.

No one cares about the pro bowl.. you want to be an All pro. Vince young was a 3 time pro bowler due to alternates.

The same was said about Geno Smith and Sam Darnold. A change of scenery for Trevor is probably on the way. Depending on where he goes, we'll see.

Trevor is the first pick in the draft though. Geno was a 2nd rounder.

Right now at this point in time I would say he is a bust.
He went #1, touted as a generational talent. He should be able to elevate the team around him and so far that has not been the case.
Sometimes the jump from college to the NFL just does not pan out.

Also to those saying he needs a change of scenery, I doubt any team is going to take on that contract given his performance.

Yet paid like a top QB, that is why he is stuck with the Jags. Nobody is gonna pick that up on a hope and prayer.

I still can't believe this trade for Travis Hunter.
AI Overview
+8 NFL draft: Jags trade up for Travis Hunter as QB-needy teams ... The Jaguars traded their 2025 first-round pick (No. 5 overall), second-round pick (No. 36), fourth-round pick (No. 126), and 2026 first-round pick to the Browns for the No. 2 overall pick. With the second overall pick, the Jaguars selected Travis Hunter.

The other issue is he has not had a decent O line since being in Jax. Never seen a more porous offense line in the NFL. He played yesterday with top two receivers out and the receiving core has to be the leader in dropped passes…that said, he has turned the ball over too much and performance to date does not align with a first round pick.

He's hard to evaluate because his offensive line is always the worst or one of the worst in the NFL and he's never had elite skill players around him. The line is much more of a problem than the weapons.

Look at Matt Stafford as a comp to TL , both went #1 and both were predicted for greatness. Both went to terrible teams, Stafford lifted his team and so far TL has looked mediocre to downright bad.

I was responding to the fact you said he elevated the Lion's play, which he did not. He also had Megatron as his WR1 and a respectable OL. His numbers regressed some after Megatron retired but he was still very good. TLaw has never had even a decent line or an elite WR1.

He did elevate their play, he gave them a chance. Watching TL I am not sure he is not a liability, makes poor decisions a 6th year QB should not make.

He had Megatron at his disposal ...for his entire Detroit stay . That dude required double teams and special scheming and all he did was catch touchdowns. Not hard to look good when you are throwing to Calvin Johnson all over the field.

No , not a bust but has certainly underperformed this far in respect to his draft hype and his college accolades. Too many INTs. However , and in his defense...the Jag organization is a tumbling compost bin of garbage drafts , poor free-agency deals and inconsistent hiring practices. He may need a fresh start elsewhere. Would love for my Steelers to go after him.

Doubt any team is picking up that contract for how he has played. Cannot see the Jags trading him and picking up a substantial portion of his contract either. They are stuck with each other.

Trevor is 26 years old, the age Joe Borrow was in 2019….lol
Trevor is just getting started and still a very rich man, not a bust at all!
He’ll be in the league providing he stays healthy until he is 35-40 years old.

Not talking about rich, but as a player. Part of the reason I mention this topic is because I bet my friend while Trevor was in college that he would be in the HOF one day. Now he is very average. Always pulling for him though.

[***Length Warning***]
I've been a big advocate for TL for a while. I see two truths here:
1) Yes, at this point you could consider TL a bust based on the expectations of believing he could elevate the team similar to Luck....that has not happened and leads to point #2.
2) Where you are drafted absolutely matters. Jags are a historical dumpster fire with success sprinkled here and there as one season wonders. Trevor was not set up for success from the get go which is expected for a #1 pick but somehow even worse when you really start to dive into things...
Let's take a look at what he's been through to this point:
1) The Urban Meyer Failure. Nuff said. Probably a 30:30 at some point 😂
2) Doug Pederson....seemed like he might help him right the ship and they won a play off game....just to see them never really fix the OL, surround Trevor with better talent and defense before he got paid.
3) Terrible OL play...still bad today. Happy Feet syndrome impact.
4) Injuries. IMO this has probably rattled him most. He's played with bad wheels and been KOd from games...that impacts people far more than you'd think.
5) Lack of playmakers...to this point who has been that consistent playmaker to make the catch to extend drives or score TDs?
A) Brian Thomas Jr looked to be that guy and he's regressed.
B) Travis Hunter is down with injuries.
C) Parker Washington can be explosive but, like a lot of dudes catching the ball, is inconsistent.
D) Remember how Jerry Jeudy was going to be that dawg for him??? And that didn't happen. Hard to remember him being on the team.
E) ...is Christian Kirk the most consistent guy he's worked with??!? That's sad no matter how you wanna argue it.
Now, can Coen potentially right the ship with TL? Well, I hope so. It'd be a cool story and something a franchise could rally around.... however, so far, TL doesn't seem to be geling well with the O like you'd hope (a la Baker Mayfield).
That said, I got a feeling TL ends up leaving (likely being traded as I don't think he leaves the Jags voluntarily) at some point and we see him have a Jared Goff kind of resurrection. IMO that's where he fits for me in my head for a ceiling which ain't bad (he can be very good when he's on) but it's not elite tier like Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow either.
I'd love to be proven wrong. It pains me to say it because I'm still holding out as a Tiger fan that he lights the league up, but for now, he's an above average NFL QB at best.
TLDR: - He's a bust based on expectations. - Valid reasons for him struggling. - Hoping for the best but likely needs a change to see him push further. - Overall verdict, can be very good but at this point is not the generational player we thought.

Mahomes would not be elite either if he had to live in TLaws world every single week. Last years SB showed just that.
Absolutely agree with this. Same with a young Brady as Tom on another team likely gets cut and is working for Enterprise 😂 Mahomes groomed early by Alex Smith and Big Red (Reid) gave him the best situation and it paid off with some Superbowl wins.
Imagine if Trevor or DW4 had that situation? Maybe DW4 doesn't have the off the field issues and TL might have a Superbowl win or two as well.

Give him a year with his new HC and OC. Penalties at the wrong time hurt them today. Even on their final drive, an incredible pass and catch that would have put them in FG range was called back. They’ve led the league in WR drops the whole year. I believe he and the team will get better. I do wish they could get Christian Wilkins on their DL when healthy..

#1 picks usually go to bad teams, it's better to be a mid 1st rounder

Clowney went number one and he's had a pretty average career with all that potential; I think he was just lazy. Patrick Mahomes went #10 and has had a great career and there are lots of QBs with equal or better talent.
A really good QB can elevate an average team, but it's hard for even a great QB to elevate a long-time losing franchise. Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers won Super Bowls at Green Bay, but couldn't do much for the Jets, though they were in the twilight of their careers when they played for them.

Yes he is. Jacksonville is a mess, but he makes too many boneheaded plays. I do believe he will leave Jacksonville and have a second shot in 2-3 years. If he ends up with a better franchise he can be Jared Goff 2.0.
Personally, I hope the Rams get him in 2 years to replace Stafford.

5th year in the league 3rd head coach, 3rd offensive scheme. No O line the entire time. WR's lead the league in drops for the 2nd year in a row. No valid #1 receiver. I thought he did himself a disservice resigning with Jacksonville.
Bust or not (I don't think so, yet) the kid will retire from football a multi-millionaire and have zero worries the rest of his life.

This years Jville team is similar to 2025 Clemson. Defense sucks on all 3 position groups and the Oline is awful, with the worst starting LT in the league protecting TLaws blindside. Receivers can't catch the ball either when they are actually on the field.

Truth is outside of an extremely tiny minority of QBs in NFL history organization matters the most in QB success.
Swap Burrow and Trevor and Burrow would be called a bum on the jags and Lawerence would've been to the playoffs a few times by now.
Old man Joe Flacco looks like an MVP with those elite wide outs the bengals have.
Look at how the 49ers can get great QB play out of anyone. Shannahan has an incredible system. Look at how the Rams are still getting great years out of Stafford and helped Goff early in his career.
Look at how Ben Johnson has helped the Bears finally look competent on offense and at QB for the first time since Jay Cutler.
Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones all looked terrible on the Panthers, Jets/Panthers, and the Giants respectively. They all went to decent teams with solid coaches and offensive weapons and all 3 of those guys look like dang good QBs all of a sudden.
He's not going to be a HOFer like we all wanted but the moment he leaves Jacksonville and goes to a serious NFL team he'll thrive like we've seen with those 3 QBs I just mentioned who were all called "busts" at one point.
I didn't think I could hate Urban Myer more than when he was in college but ruining Trevors rookie year made me hate him more.

I never thought Trevor was a "generational talent"

He peaked his freshman year at Clemson and never got better. That year, he was given the keys to a Cadillac and he drove it well. But Trevor clearly regressed as a sophomore and I don't think there is much argument against that.
You can toss out his rookie year playing for the disaster known as Urban Meyer. Since then, Trevor has performed about like I thought he would. It was a complete joke when they made him the highest paid player in history when he signed the extension. But it's all good for him now and he'll never have to worry financially again.
I'm curious to see what happens after the current contract runs out. We'll get a chance to see how important football really is to him.

Almost a bust? He's a massive bust. He's been one of the worst QBs in the NFL this year - and when you adjust for contract value he's been by far the worst QB in the league this year. He's just a bad pro QB.

a fully functional offense. If he's going to play on teams where its all on him then he'll have issues b/c he's not that type of player. He's not that magician type. He's your prototypical drop back passer with decent instincts but not super human instincts. He wasn't that type at Clemson either. If our defense was giving up 35 points a game while he was here then it would have been tough sledding for championships here as well. But our defense was reliable game in and game out. He'll get better as time goes on but right now he's not the type to put the team on his back consistently. And with his team not helping him when he does make the throw..its impossible.
