Confession: I was watching live streaming of Major League Fishing bass tournament all day. Didn't learn about the "agreement" until about an hour ago. I'm still trying to figure out what it all means and what it really says.
But, here is the reaction I am seeing from Nole fans an a couple of websites. 1. ACC caved. 2. FSU better have voted against this crappy deal. 3. We're stuck in this horrid conference for 5 more years, probably 11. 4. Phillips is worse than Swofford. Etc. Etc.
I posted a link to a webcast that will be on later tonight, 7:00, where a lawyer will discuss it. I explained who the lawyer is and other info in that link. I won't repeat it here. But, here is the link.

My guess would be "caving" on the brand incentive

Which effectively creates uneven $ distribution among the members.
Feel like the ACC had swallow that pill to appease Clemson/FSU (among others) & bring the litigation to an end. Only way they got to try & have schools close the $ gap w/ SEC/B10 counterparts, along w/ the postseason incentive that lets schools keep more of their postseason $.

Poor choice of words on my part.

Better stated, ACC agreed with ESPN and said, "We are perfectly happy with you extending the deal thru 2036 and making sure that we cannot compete with SEC and B1G. We like being a second rate conference."
And, by ACC, I mean every school that voted to ratify the agreement. (We still don't know how each school voted.)

The ACC, and the schools, had no say in ESPN extending the deal. This was a media rights option to opt in or opt out at the midway point of the contract. The ACC does not have any option to opt out, and we don’t have to agree with ESPN to let them continue to service the contract that was already signed.

You are right. I am confusing the reports...

.... of 1) ESPN extending the contract and 2) the reports of an agreement between ACC and member schools to share revenue by giving some schools more money than others.

One could assume that if this brand payment is contingent on the lawsuits being dropped, then they caved because the risk of the lawsuits going in Clemson/FSU favor was too great
Which be in line with why the non brand schools agreeing to it

My knee jerk reaction to this deal:
First off, I was hoping our lawsuits would be successful and we could get out of the ACC and join the SEC. It’s disappointing that we are giving up on our lawsuits already in exchange for an increase in propositional revenue that is probably still nowhere near what schools like Vandy and UofSC get from their SEC tv deal.
Secondly, I think that allowing that Notre Dame to continue to bend us over with this deal that benefits them a lot more than it benefits the ACC is a disappointing move also. Although I can’t say I’m surprised.
But honestly what I personally hate most about this is this new arrangement where we are playing Notre Dame 2 out of every 3 years. Notre Dame is a great program that draws a lot of eyeballs anytime we play them, but 2 out of every 3 years is too much. It basically prevents us from ever being able to schedule a home and away with SEC programs like LSU and Georgia ever again because we won’t have 2 years in a row free on our schedule (due to our annual rivalry with USCjr). Instead, we’ll just be stuck playing neutral site one offs and those suck.
I’d love to play Notre Dame every year if they were an actual ACC member, but giving up our ability to schedule home and aways with SEC teams is a huge bummer since Notre Dame is going to be clogging up our only available slot for a big marquee OOC game. And we won’t have an say as to when these games happen cause the ACC will schedule them.

ACC has not agreed to all that. Clemson and FSU haven't agreed to it. I was giving a knee jerk reaction and thinking that as part of ESPN extending the contract the ACC had already agreed to the deal. Apparently that isn't true. It is a proposal that has not been officially and finally agreed to. At least not yet.

in future because they are probably going to 9 conference games, but if not, it doesn't make sense to schedule hard non conference games in the current playoff format.

It seems like ESPN should try and build up the ACC more. They have the conference in such a great deal, it seems like they could really cash in if they promoted it more.

I think it’s about their financial situation. Limited resources and cut backs at ESPN with continuing declines. They can assign the least experienced broadcasters and cycle them through and still be profitable with the ACCN. Meanwhile, any time they program the SEC into a time window over the ACC option on ABC/ESPN channels they can get better ratings. The CFP generates more money with 4 SEC and 1 ACC team instead of 3 and 2 and on and on. The ACC is just content filler for where they have SEC gaps. That’s why I expect they are pushing ND to play better road matchups and a 9 game SEC schedule.

I'm hoping the year to exit can be moved up to 2030 or 31.
