As a native Texan...

Dec 10, 2012, 10:16 PM

I can't imagine going to Lubbock no matter how homesick I was. It looks like the post apocalyptic scenes in The Book of Eli, but without the benefit of books. Its where Texas high school kids go to party- and its literally 100% flat. In fact, you can see death valley from jones stadium, as morris might be caught doing from time to time if he takes that job...

it rains dirt in lubbock. that's about all you need to know...

I've heard of it raining cats and dogs, even frogs, but as a former weatherman I've never heard of it raining dirt. But I do believe you, wierd crap happens in Texas.

I went to visit a high school friend of mine at Texas Tech when we were in college. He took me to "the hill" so named because it has something like a 0.7% "incline."

I had to constantly blow my nose to get all the dirt out- because the dirt devils (the little wind cyclones) would kick up so much dirt that you had no choice but the breathe it in...and get it all in your hair...and feel like your skin was being rubbed with sandpaper...

other than that, Lubbock is a delight.

It's not about geography

Dec 10, 2012, 10:29 PM

It's about stepping stones.....do really well at TT and you parley it into a big time job in the SEC.

aside from your feeble attempt at spelling "parlay," you seem to be pretty ill informed about Mr. Morris. Texas A&M (his alma mater) only just joined your tea party, and any connection to the SEC is purely coincidental.

I can see him viewing the Tech job as a stepping stone, but only to another school in Texas and I'm not so sure its the right time to make that move- given the fact that Sumlin (if he continues to put up numbers like he did this year) won't have any reason to leave, and the Longhorns might not go for an Aggie at the helm once Mack retires. If anything, I can see them going after Muschamp and stealing one from your little fraternity. In either case, Morris is stuck in pitiful Lubbock, yet he lacks Leach's insanity to actually enjoy the place.

TCU and Baylor would be lateral moves (but major geographic upgrades) and SMU & Houston are shells of their former SWC glory days.

So he can go to Lubbock if he wants...but he might just find himself stuck there...

Remember Bo Schembechler was an OSU grad but was….

the head coach at Michigan. By the way when Texas was looking for an OC the same time we got Chad Morris, Texas was also interested in Morris.

And Will Muschamp is a UGA grad, but is HC at UF.***

You obviously didn't grow up in Texas.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, but you do know UGA and UF, and OSU and Michigan...

hate each other just as much as Texas and aTm hate each other.

...also...if you poll the top high school players in Texas and gave them the choice between Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech...the lions share of the talent would land in Austin and College station. Their bigger, richer, closer to the population centers, and play on a bigger stage. That's not to say that Morris couldn't win at Tech- I think he'd do well, but he'd be in the shadows for sure. He'll be able to put up some offensive numbers...but as his experience at Clemson has proven, without a defense (TT isn't exactly a defensive juggernaut) it could be a bumpy ride...

If Chad stays at Clemson he will never get a big time TX job. You got to start some where. Is he going to win a nat championship at TT? Probably not. But he can win enough to get a big time school to give him a shot.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

First off, Morris has came out and said TT has not contacted

Dec 10, 2012, 11:04 PM

him. Secondly, if he stays at Clemson and his offense continue's to put up big numbers he will still draw a lot of interest.

They haven't contacted him. But I guarantee you they have talked to his agent.

Did you see the movie "Bernie" where a Texan was explaining

Dec 10, 2012, 10:39 PM

the different regions of Texas? They were showing a map of Texas, while an old Texan explained the different regions. When it got to the Lubbock region he skipped it entirely, and they put a big question mark on the map.

He'd be leading an offense-heavy team in an offense-heavy conference from his home state, where he's already tight with some of the state's top HS coaches & is very familiar with his primary recruiting turf, one of the most talent-rich in America.

Let's not forget Kevin Sumlin parlayed a brief gig at poor man's Texas Tech, U of H, into a head job at Texas A&M, and we've all witnessed what has transpired there in the past year. Chad's eying this job from across the bar. As a Texan, he could handle Lubbock for few years, where he'd even have the opportunity to reunite with a former player in Brewer and the fans have beautiful nostalgia about a once very potent offensive attack that led to a couple of 10-win seasons. I doubt this throws him in the pool for coach & CEO of Texas, where Mack will be out in the very future, may even walk out in an attempt to salvage what he can of his reputation as an underachiever with a national crown behind a god-like QB (Gene Chizik, I'm looking at you, too... oh, er... not anymore). But, it has the looks of a solid stepping stone to a powerhouse... maybe Chip bolts to the league, maybe not. Maybe Kiffin gets run out of Lakerland, maybe not. Who really knows what "Big Game" Stoops has in mind? The possibilities are endless. We've certainly seen wilder, right?

I bleed Clemson, but I can't deny that this would be an attractive landing spot for Chad & I think most would agree. It would crush me to see him leave Clemson, but I knew this was inevitable... it was just a matter of when. I certainly thought he'd ride out the Tajh (most likely), Nuk (holding my breath), and Sammy train, see his stock rise even more, but maybe not.

ALL of this being said, I think Kliff Kingsbury, the 33-year-old golden brainchild of Mike Leach, is the lead dog. The cigars & the fans adore him, and he'd be cheaper than Chad. Money talks.

Just my Deuce cents... or should I say sense.

point for "it rains dirt in Lubbock"
