Our LB's play with ZERO gap integrity. None. That's bad coaching. No excuse for that. I watch high school players with better gap awareness than that. We made Syracuse look all-world. Shameful.

Yep. The spot I thought Allen would help the most is a disaster. LB play has taken a huge step back.

Apparently not.
Tom Allen has all the appearances of a bust.

Did Allen have any say in determining who the LB coach would be?

Streeter was a bus, Riley is a bust, Goodwin is a bust, Allen is a bust, DJ was a bust, Cade is a bust....
I am really busting my brain trying to figure out how we could have such bad luck

The Syracuse left guard pulled and took down both Peter Woods and Will Heldt with one block. It didn't change the play outcome at all, but it sure helped to establish a pecking order on the line.

Actually, our LB's are running OUT of plays.......running away from the gap they are supposed to cover. This is what happens when you hire rookie coaches and expect them to know how to coach because they played the position years ago.

Our ouside LB didn't stay in his gap and tried to do somebody else's job by crashing the A-gap on the handoff, creating the running lane for the Syracuse RB. Pitiful.
If Tom Allen's specialty is coaching LBs, he's failing so far.

Isn't Allen's son also coaching the LBs. Seems like that's is the only group he was going to assist.

We only have Parker left on that side to defend both the QB and the RB. You can see him frozen for a second since he had to respect the keeper, and then he cant recover in time to get the back. There's gotta be somebody else behind him to help there.

I can honestly say there are better-coached high school teams out there.

Yep - that's Woodaz who jumps the gun and winds up out of position, I believe.

Unless the LBs key is the guard

in which case he is supposed to fill the gap left by the pulling guard, get flat and follow.
I don’t know the D call, but based on the LB’s first step I’d guess the guard was his key.
It looks like the DE got too deep and failed to contain. A different problem, but not necessarily on the LB.

No, gonna disagree with you there. His job is to make sure the A-gap is covered in a 4-2 defensive front. Parker dove.

No way for us to know

But the LB clearly followed the guard, or attempted to anyway. Could have been a mistake on his part (not the call), but it resulted in the OT being able to block down with ease and create the hole. It was a great play call which may have been the result of seeing our tendencies on film. Again, no idea, just speculation based on the LB flow and OT blocking down.

Hard to know.....but the bottom line is it isn't "just one play". It's literally dozens of plays. We allowed over 5 ypc to Syracuse.....freaking Syracuse.......this one play really illustrates the poor gap integrity that has characterized this defense for two years running.

Someone was not where they were supposed to be.
New system? New coach? Bad coaching?
I don’t know, but it’s frustrating to watch.

I dont have the answer but it's painful to watch. It seems Woodazz (in particular) is out of position on nearly every play...he's pursuing runners, not attacking them.
Is it scheme? Coaching? Both? I don't know.

Boulware was one-heck-of-a-player but he should not be in charge of LBs period. The man doesn't have the experience and expertise yet to coach LBs.
