it's just the day after and there is a lot of hate for all things Clemson right now, but consider this: if I could offer you a 10-2 regular season record for the rest of your life, would you take it? In those 3-8 years, I absolutely know you would say yes. Of course, for all you haters, you'll say you wouldn't. I know you would.

it was one 3-8 season and Tommy West got fired after it...

but that 1998 3-8 team didn't have a defense nowhere near as bad as the 2011 and 2012 defenses. Even in years we haven't been good, our defense has never been as bad as it has the past 2 seasons. And let's be honest we played about 10 teams with 6 wins or less. Not that hard to have a 10 win season when your playing that easy of a schedule.

And in that 3-8 TW season, I believe we ALL would have signed up for 10-2 every year thereafter. That was my point.
As for the defense, I saw improvement throughout the season. We played a lot of youth. Next year we should see more improvement. I'm not down on the defense after last night. They played 40 minutes, for goodness' sake. Yes, they gave up some horrible third-and-longs, but they were also hampered by two drive-extending BS PI calls. All-in-all, the defense played well enough to win.
I have issues with Chad's offensive game plan. I think it was way too vanilla.
Nevertheless, the point is, if we went 10-2 every year, we'd be considered an elite team.

A TE blocking the best DE in the nation would have been a good idea. But that's what you get, not biotching , just stating facts.
A 4th year head coach A 3rd year college OC 1st year DC(at this school) that hasn't recruited his players yet.
Growing pains will occur. This team did not "Pull A Clemson" this year . 10-2 is a good step in the right direction, today it still hurts and will hurt until Dabo & Staff get that USuC monkey off their back.

I don't think anyone but a Clemson fan thinks this team is elite. Losing to the only two good teams we played tells another story. A story of playing in a very weak conference, of getting embarrassed in bowl games, and owned by our rival.
This team does not merit respect from non-fans. I'm sorry to say it but we have a long way to go- a long way.

10-2 every year, we would be considered an elite team. Remember when VT had like 10 straight ten-win seasons? They were considered elite. Capice?

I think everyone here would be happy with a 10-2 season every year as long as it didn't include a loss to the gamecocks. Even at 10-2 this year, what have we proven? We lost to the two teams that we played that had a pulse this year. Beating up on Duke, Maryland, Wake, BC, and a VT team that is barely bowl eligible doesn't prove much of anything. Losing to SCAR doesn't make this season a total failure, but it is hard to say we are getting better when our best win is arguably Ball State, and we lost by more than one score to the two teams we played who were worth a crap. What goals that the team set before the season have we met? We didn't win the division, we aren't going to win the conference, we didn't win all of our home games, we didn't win the state championship for the fourth year in a row. What have we proven?

Fair enough. To go 10-2 year-in-and-year-out, however,

we would be beating some very good teams most years. Next year, for example, we play UGa, FSU and CootU. We'd obviously have to beat at least one of them to go 10-2.

You are absolutely right, most years we would have some good wins in a 10-2 year. I know you have to play who is on the schedule, and we tried to liven up the schedule with Auburn, but this conference as a whole is just inexcusably bad. Who, besides Clemson and FSU, even looks like a team that should be in a bowl this year? I know people disagree, but I think Clemson needs to get out of the ACC as soon as possible and get to a conference where schools actually have football fans. IMO, fanbases are a large part of what makes schools good at football, and the ACC is sorely lacking.
