I’m all in with Dabo! I can’t think of another Head Coach I would rather have at Clemson.

On our last Championship run after barely beating a good #16 Texas A&M on the road, we almost lost to Syracuse in Death Valley!
Our 3rd string QB had to pull out the game after our #1 quit and #2 took over and got hurt. 6 points saved us from 2 losses.
We basically blew every team out after that, and won the National Championship. That took 5 games to get started on our run.
FAU and FSU will show what we have.

Just like the USC game last year, turnovers kill wins! A bunch of turnovers, and you lose big! Duke was like the West Virginia Orange Bowl, not to be repeated!

Don’t turn the ball 🏈 over, and we win games!

Go Tigers, Beat FAU! 🐅

If you really watched our two games, we’ve had 8-10 plays on Offense that have been terrible, QB is still learning, throws beautiful passes and on the money. Needs to eliminate the bone head plays and he will. Our OL looks to be the very best we have had in many years. Large running lanes for out RB. Overall our plays and play calling have been very good. Our defense has been average to our standards. Better enjoy the ride because we are in our glory years.

Our #1 got hurt and #2 quit. Yes, #3 Brice was a pivotal piece of the puzzle. It takes everyone on the team to be their best to contribute and win. Even the coaches with their planning. Personally, I think our issues this year have been execution on the field of those plans. I believe the ship will be righted and we'll forge through the storm successfully.

Great response from Dabo!

13

Sep 11, 2023, 9:51 PM

To be clear, we sucked out loud for the first 5-6 quarters this year. Ugly and pathetic; the worst Clemson has looked in a long time. I've been as frustrated and disappointed as anybody, and I haven't been quiet about it.

I like what Panthers coach Frank Reich said after an ugly loss to the Falcons Sunday: “Everyone of us — players and coaches — should be hard on ourselves,” Reich said. “In the next 24 hours, it should not taste good. And we need to eat every bit of it. Otherwise, you don’t learn and get better from it.”

I hope our players and coaches all were sick with that bitter taste, for at least 24 hours, and I hope it was disgusting enough that they will commit to never having that taste in their mouths again. I understand that they have to move forward and put it behind them this week, but doing so should not be too easy for them. It has to stick in their craw enough so they learn from it. That's my biggest concern.

Having said all of that, Dabo has been far too successful at Clemson to think the game has passed him by, or that he's lost the magic. We might not win it all this year; we may not win the ACC. IF we don't play better than we have we won't win many games at all. But I agree with Dabo, "We're not going anywhere", and he's not either. I'm still pulling for him and the whole program.

I don't have a problem really with anything he said. He has been right a lot more than he has been wrong and he has consistently produced double-digit win seasons. Even last year, as disappointing as it was not to make the playoffs, we still got very close. If we beat SC, MAYBE we would have gotten into the playoffs. We will never know for sure.

He's right when he says every year can't be a NC year or even a playoff year but our standards and expectations have grown because of the success he brought to Clemson. The world is changing and if he can be as competitive as he has been doing it the way he thinks best, I certainly won't question it as long as the results are there.

I do believe the Portal is simply another recruiting tool and I don't believe it will ruin our culture. Heck, we bring in 20-25 new faces every season with Freshman and somehow the culture remains intact so I don't think 3-4 portal guys are going to upset anything, but I understand he has his ways and that is all that matters.

We had a rough start but at least the loss came early and we've experienced that before, Pitt, Syracuse, etc. and those years turned out incredibly well. FSU will be a huge next step and I actually do think the team will be ready for them.

I don't know if we are better than FSU but we will find out soon enough. To me, that is the first test of Dabo vs. The Portal.

I really hope he wins...

I have no issues with losing, I understand losing is part of CFB but when you have 3 seasons to make the necessary changes and fail to because you still think hiring ex players that are your "yes men" is the way then something is wrong. While I applaud him for getting rid of Streeter and hiring Riley it is sad that he has yet to see that Grisham is not a liability to this program. Since Jeff Scott left our WR play has went to the complete tail end of CFB stats. We have the laziest and least competitive WRs we have ever had at Clemson. When we have Hampton Earle out there playing WR for a (previous) top 25 team then something is wrong. That kid wouldn't start or even play for Rice! We were WRU and now we are the laughing stock of CFB but Dabo doesn't see it as a WR himself? Come on, that's just sad. He wants so bad to find another Hunter Renfrow that he is handing scholarships out like breath mints to everybody with a part in their hair. Quite frankly it's embarrassing. I'll deal with the no portal use but the hiring yes men has to STOP! This isn't high school, this is CFB.

Interestingly we didn't support football at an elite level when Dabo managed to make us elite. Brad has had equal time to do the same. And when Dabo won his first ACC title, a first for Clemson since the inception of a title game so let's not pretend history was on his side, his salary was near the bottom of the conference. Brad can no longer say the same. He is one of the highest paid and longest tenured coaches in the conference. Yet has not a single piece of hardware to show for it. It's almost like athletic budgets reflect prior accomplishments and are less indicative of future success. But acknowledging that doesn't serve your agenda.

Our down years shouldn't mean getting blown out by the better teams on our schedule. They certainly shouldn't mean losing to Duke by 3 touchdowns.

I’m ride or die with you Dabo, you’ve earned it. For a few years anyways but he said absolutely nothing new that he hasn’t said before. The problem is there’s now a problem.

It’s frustrating. He says he’s not against the portal but he is. Acts like he has tried to use it. (I’m not talking about back ups QB’s) (I know we may have once tried to get a OL) but he needs to own it. Stop saying this crap. We know you don’t like it. Just don’t try and mislead us. I get that the player has to be interested but you’re telling me you can’t even get some on campus for visits? If we had 3 or 4 guys last year come in and we didn’t land them that would be one thing but again, stop lying to us about the portal. Also please don’t use the scholarship number. It’s a built in excuse. No other program in the nation had to deal with it. Why? Because maybe you should nudge a player or two out if you can get someone that can help contribute and make the team better. Just look at our roster and you’ll find 5 or 10 guys that don’t belong on this roster. I know Dabo was a walk on. So he’s going to be extra loyal to those guys but just be honest and admit that’s another roster issue we have because of Dabo.

He’s also stubborn and probably over confident. Doesn’t see much wrong even though the trajectory is slowly going down.

Again, I’ll praise when I can. Love that he let go of Streeter and hired Riley.

I’m not all doom and gloom either. I believe we can still win out though it’s more likely we go 10-2 to 8/4 this year.

Let’s go!! Can’t wait to be back in the Valley on Saturday night.

sounds like we don’t pay enough for the good portal players

sounds like we have looked into a handful of players

probably “just not that into us” due to lack of fat stacks comparatively

and if we are being honest - potential locker room problems and lack of cohesiveness

i have no problem with what we are doing but we better hit homers recruiting wise at every position or we won’t be competitive

good recruit evaluation and managing the numbers is yuge for us - when a williams or a higgins leaves, you better have another one in the pipeline if you aren’t going to go buy one

and that is college football in 2023…unfortunately

The transfer portal is great for two things.

1. It allows programs the opportunity to clandestinely recruit players from other rosters. If the recruitment goes well, these players can be paid, offered a spot, and then the player enters the portal, at which time said player elects to go to the school that has recruited and paid him. This is the mechanism how teams bring players from lesser teams to better teams. This is how upper echelon teams get better through addition

2. The portal allows teams a legal, acceptable way to thin their roster of players that are never going to make the two deep or players who are not going to be productive or happy where they are. In the past, these players just had their scholarships pulled. Now they “can enter the transfer to find a better fit.” And most of the time these under performing players land far below their original team or they don’t land anywhere at all. This is the mechanism of how upper level teams use the portal to improve by getting rid of players they don’t want.

In between these mechanisms above, there are some players who enter the portal without any prior recruitment who might be available to make Clemson a better roster. There might be players on our current two deep who we want to keep, but who want to go elsewhere for playing time or for a better payment (NIL deal).

Clemson in the Dabo Swinney era has somehow managed to get 5*& 4*talent admitted to our university and roster through standard recruitment. At some point, we will figure out how to stomach the transfer portal mechanism in a way that benefits us.

But it is incredibly naïve to think that very high-level talent just enters the transfer portal without already knowing where they are going to land, or at least, knowing how the bidding process for their services will unfold.

I wonder why Coach doesn't wait until Clemson has defeated a team of merit before trumpeting, "We aren't going anywhere", and what does that comment mean? It may mean a Clemson return to excellence is just around the corner with the personnel we have, or it may mean we are going to keep doing what we have been doing because that is the Clemson way.

Swinney is stuck in place, inflexible in the extreme, and he spends a great deal of time looking to the past to justify what he doesn't do in the present, and probably won't do (nearly enough) in the future. To add that it is important that the staff, on a personal level, be favorably disposed towards a possible portal transfer, gives Swinney all the latitude he needs to say "no".

If things don't go well for Clemson this year, Coach will have to change his approach or face mounting criticism which could become deafening. He is fortunate two of this year's three toughest games are at home.

Dude is raw! He has a killer inside him and has made death Valley into an expression "see Brian kelly"!

Dude is a smoking gun and if he says he's got it then I have to believe him.

All the Fairweather fans called him a cheerleader and so many of us saw the love he had for Clemson and believed. Remember T Bowden in an interview laughing taking about, "it was six games before I knew about rubbing the rock,... hahaha"! Well f u Bowden.
Dabo kisses the sob and flies down the field to honor tradition. 110% or keep you filthy d skinners off my rock.

Thank you for making Clemson proud Dabo! Thank you to all the players, families, fans, money men, etc... that bought in and haven't left.

What a time to be alive! Tigers

I 100% agree! I respect and appreciate all that Dabo has brought to Clemson and the love he has for our boys and the program! I wish all these so called "fans" would go find a new bandwagon to jump on and let us true fans enjoy this season, win or lose I'm ALL IN! If you can't give 110% keep your filthy hands off our rock and let our coach do his job! GO TIGERS!

You're living escapism... No different than a shot of liquor or smoking a joint. People work their jobs, pay crap tons of money to go to these games... I remember the first National Championship in this millennium and I remember the release and joy I felt... Went to bed, woke up, hung over and tired and went to work and my life was exactly the same the next day... Only life that was changed was the coach's. Oh well, I'm getting old. GET OFF MY LAWN! Who am I? It's 3am and I'm up, which sucks... CPAP machines suck... Go Tigers! These Tuscaloser fans are way worse than us...

Amen! Every leader has those who question his calls. I love the culture at Clemson now. I love the emphasis on education and character. And I enjoy winning, but let us not sell our souls in pursuit of winning. Dabo has it right.

100% right on! Those teams who “cheat” and build their rosters through the portal are selling their souls. They suck at selling the culture, the education, and the (lack of) process they have and go out and get “guns for hire” to load their teams for a 1-2 year run, but no loyalty will remain between said player and school. Now, I can understand pulling in 2-3 portal guys because 2-3 of your own recruits leave you… that’s fair.
But what the likes of what Colorado or even FSU have done? All in the name of “legal cheating” and winning at all costs. For now.

CSU game was more profound than most are giving credit

Sep 12, 2023, 6:30 AM

that was the first game Clemson put up 60pts since TL16 era

in that game CSU had 14pts when they had -5yrds rushing and 5 yards passing , 0 total yards

it was almost 80-3

DUKE game. complete and total choke

i'm telling you, when CK2 threw the pick 6 , that was the moment the season changed

I am upset we don't use the portal but Dabo will never tell a player they have a starting role

Sep 12, 2023, 7:45 AM

Which is what portal players want along with comas in their bank accts. My gripe and disgust with Dabo is that Grisham still is employeed with a "coach" tag by his name. He is just as bad as Streeter and has ruined these WRs, Collins would be a monster at any other school but he can't even hardly get separation against an FCS teams DBs. I really hope that Dabo has Scott back on the payroll because he is shedding the dead weight of Grisham after this season! Then you have Thomas Austin who somehow gets 4 & 5 star OL here that every team wants and he somehow makes them worse. The fact that Charleston Southern was pushing around the OL the way they were is embarrassing! That's not counting Dukes DL who pushed then around like a bully. If Dabo doesn't want to use the portal then he needs to get the absolute best recruiters and coaxhes money can buy and get rid of those peewee coaches he has hired.

Regarding the Portal......... Clemson's issue right now is that there are a lot of project/development players and not enough battle tested. If we get a 5 star high school kid and have to take 2 years to develop him, does it pay off these days??

greatest Clemson coach of all time, but he is losing ground to the competition because of his portal policy. He says considers it for every player lost. Well, then he is making bad decisions, or simply can't get anyone. How can you be so good at one aspect of recruitment and so bad at the other? Something tells me he doesn't really push getting people from the portal. He will need to improve in that area, or we will just have to have fun being out of the race early.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Im confused. Is it 15 for 15 or just have fun?

Sep 13, 2023, 7:33 AM

Because pre-season it was “15 for 15” and “y’all are on the clock.”
