We're 1-0 vs. Penn St. There is your answer. It's a step up for any coach and/or player.

Well, that game was 45 or so years ago when Danny and the boys kicked Joe Pa in Orlando so there is no relevance to today. We will know how lateral the move is when the contract details are released.

It was stated he was making 1.4 mill at Penn St. It wouldn't surprise me to see him get something in the 2's with incentives for his first contract with us.

... even AFTER he just made it to the semis.
Much like OSU, Penn St seems to be looking for a reason to get rid of their guy, even as they sat on the doorstep of a natty.
This was a good year for them, but if they repeat it once or twice more without making the championship game, I bet they get rid of Franklin.

And they're often winning moves. And Dabo Swinney is playing next-level chess.

But considering the fact that it's been a few years since we've beaten a team ranked as highly as they are, beating them now isn't likely is it?

We are better than all but about 15-20 college football teams right now.

Unfortunately Penn State is in ranked highly in that group of 15-20.
I don't understand why some of you are seemingly unable to be objective in these types of discussions.

If we played Penn State in football in these playoffs, they would be favored. Probably by at least a touchdown.
It doesn't mean that we couldn't possibly beat them, but Vegas would say that Penn State is expected to win fairly easily.

We fixed our glaring weakness and now can compete with anyone. We were a DC away from advancing in the playoffs. With a DC, you don’t know if PSU would be favored.

and doesn’t come close to stacking up next to Clemson. We’re all about championships here, and they’re about diddling kids. If they were serious about football they’d hire a real coach instead of a reject from Vandy. Plus the B1G can’t comprehend what it takes to win in the ACC and how to compete with ACC speed. But Ohio State is about to find out when Noter Dame flexes that ACC talent.

It speaks to the overall quality of our program to poach him from PSU imo. We may pay him more in the end, and we may tack some incentives and a ‘co-‘ title onto his responsibilities. But in the end he’s coming to Clemson as a DC. So that’s a lateral title move in my book.
If he helps us get back to stuffing the run, increasing our TFL numbers, sacking the QB, and not letting Sellars run around like he owns the place, I’ll be very, very excited.
Let’s get back to dominating on defense!!!

though I don't think it matters one way or the other really. Allen seems like a great fit here - Dabo wouldn't go after him if he weren't, and Allen wouldn't be coming if he didn't believe the same. It's a win for Clemson and that's good for me.

Living in Clemson is obviously better. If I had 2 million dollars or wherever he is getting and had to chart my life out, I would feel like a fool to live in University Park, Pennsylvania compared to Clemson, SC.

Well, I was born and raised in California, so yes. I live in NC now. I have also been to every state in the country aside from Alaska. Yes, imo, I would much rather live in SC opposed to living in PA.

Pluses and minuses for both. I enjoyed my time there and love going back to visit. The summer weather is great. Arts fest. Wing fest.
But central PA is in the absolute middle of nowhere and no very diverse. I, as a black woman, struggled to find a place to get my hair done! I ended up coming back home (Clemson).

Dear ClemsonTiger1988®,
I don’t know what has happened to TNet, but you may be the only responder in this entire thread to recognize that the OP was trolling Penn State lurkers.
BTW, I haven’t forgotten, either. Many of the same big $$$ Penn State supporters who funded the PSU football program of the Joe Ped years are still pumping money into the Penn State FB program if today.
I mean, even the Epstein Island clients have disavowed any involvement with Jeffrey Epstein. Who would have imagined that Epstein Island clients have a better moral compass than Penn State boosters?

are Dabo's and Tom Allen's.
Allen made 1.7 million at PSU last year. He's getting 2 million a year at Clemson. Apparently Dabo and Tom both believe Clemson is an upgrade.

Does not matter one way or the other as the primary reason he took the job was geography. If Clemson was located in Cali or Texas for example, he would not have taken the job as even Dabo said he was not looking for a change.
