We had another leak and I was done. Back in 2012 the builder used sub-standard cpvc (sprinkler system thickness pvc) for the main water line into the house. We had a leak, and we were assured another would happen. And it did. Yard's been soaked to the tune of a couple hundred dollars of water. Plus the original water lines were buried maybe 4-5 inches deep instead of 12-14 inches, per code.

So guy's running Pex straight from the meter to the main house shutoff.

Then we just wait for the crap PVC to leak in the house. We should have a good 10 more years before that happens. 3 neighbors have had to replace all their interior water lines.

This is in addition to the crap electrical boxes the builder used.

It is like $114 a year. Reviews are somewhat mixed when it comes to their fulfillment, but typical of any type of homeowner's insurance. I figure I'm playing the odds, and the payoff of them coming through on a repair of at least $5k is worth it.

It's a short yard on the front though. Big lot, would cost more.

Neighbor's was a rough repair.

Buried under a ton of dirt and landscaping. Ours now goes under a driveway extension.

I probably wouldn't have even thought of getting the insurance unless they didn't have problems. But our houses are all built by the same builder, and our inside water leak happened months after theirs. You might say we're all "cycling" together.

I had no clue that was a thing. When did main water lines start being a problem

I grew up and never knew anyone with problems in their main water lines going into the house. And when we moved in I balked at water line insurance. But I guess it's a thing. It's about $2500, but between two $700 plumber calls, and the water that's leaked over time, well....I'd had enough.

Kicking myself for not getting the insurance. I've become quite the handy electrician though replacing almost a dozen electrical boxes.

I squeezed the handle on the water hose nozzle the other day and it cracked. $10 down the drain.
