NIL Fiasco

Dec 15, 2022, 1:59 PM

I am not a fan of NIL in college FB. However, it is what it is. I personally see this as a typical shoot from the hip ploy by politicians to keep their state schools competitive thus keeping the money funneling into their institutions. Seems $100,000 for a 4 yr education in addition to books, tutors, food, housing, etc is reward enough. Dont blame the kids though since they are a product of the system. I do however wonder whose footing the tax bill for all this. My question though is when and if college presidents and admin will reach a point where they say enough is enough and band together to attempt putting a stop to this. If such happens, I see college fb turning into college baseball where kids either go pro out of HS or attend college. Might result in the nfl establishing a farm system like MLBB. I just dont see how nil can be financially justified on a long term basis especially with the TP. Totally out of hand in my view.

This is one case where socialism should rule. All NIL money comes into a pool and is distributed equally among all players on the team. Then with the transfer portal, let them transfer as many times as they want but the will sit out one season. No practicing with the team for that season and no NIL money that season.

Yeah, that ain't happening

Ideally, I'd like the money, or a large percentage, to be kept in a trust until the player GRADUATES, but at that point they get that balance tax free, as incentive to wait and graduate. Another idea that will never happen since education is now not even secondary, it's so far down the list I don't know what "-ary" it would be. But even if they did implement this, we all know that universities (cough, UNC, cough) would find ways around it with meaningless degrees.

This is nothing more than the CSRS in Congress to suck money into their corrupt pockets.

NIL came about because of the courts, not politicians.

True, but many of the federal judges are appointed. So, there's that. Politics is everywhere. No getting around it. Can't even open a dadgum bakery and hope to stay out of the muck.

Players should be paid. I wonder if the bowl executives,

ESPN college gameday crew would like to work with out getting paid. Maybe they should get the equivalent of $100,000 (per comment above) the value of a college education.

If the money is distributed equally then ALL players are getting paid not just a select few as it is now.
Why should a player be on the practice squad, be at every practice, at every weight lifting session, at every meeting and get nothing.

The only tax bill is the athletes who earn and you have to remember that the huge majority will earn nothing and every sport is included, not just football.
