They were supposed to play in Augusta with Jupiter Coyote and Cravin Melon, but that got canceled. They are doing a concert tomorrow at Southbound Smokehouse in North Augusta. My buddy knows the lead singer and they are saving us a spot right up front. I’m sure I’ve seen them at some point in my life, but I’ll be dammned if I can think of when that may have been. Looking forward to it.

I remember listening to Blue Dogs and Jupiter Coyote like crazy while I was at Clemson back in the early 2000s.
Blue Dogs' cover of Brown Eyed Women is fantastic.
And I'm surprised to see someone outside of my immediate friend group mention Jupiter Coyote. lol ... I didn't realize that band was that big.

Which fits.
Blue Dogs do a great cover of Counting Crows "Rain King" too. I'll never understand how those guys didn't make it. Too much of a local, lowcountry sound I guess.

Especially if Charlie is there playing the pedal steel guitar.
I think they did that same show in Columbia last night.

the Southern, sometimes Hank Futch will show up if he's in town. Whoever they bring in will play a few of their own songs, but there's always a bunch of Blue Dog tunes, too.
They had it last night and two local dudes from a band Called Finnegan Bell sat in for Bobby, and they brought in Mel Washington to play--first time he's played at the Southern. That dude is awesome.
No real point here other than yes, you are correct, and if you get to see Mel Washington play anywhere, do it.

If you grew up in SC in the 90s, you know Bobby and/or Hank.

I’ve never liked Cravin Melon but BD are good and JC borders on great. Should be a fun show.

I got to talking to some dude who had moved here from somewhere (prob Ohio) and he asked me how long I had lived here.
I told "Long enough to know all the Blue Dogs by first name". He looked at me weird and said "uh..OK". I don't think he knew who the BD's are.

Just know that bassist Hank Futch is driving from Rock Hill to entertain you and treat him with the utmost respect.
Because Rock Hill, and bass.

They had only put the tickets on sale earlier that morning so there was maybe only 100 people there. Other than being outside and cold (I spent $35 on a long sleeve tshirt just to survive, was worth every penny), it was almost a personal show. We sat about 10 feet away from the stage right in front of the band. Got to chat with all of them before and after the show, and between sets. They were cool, and their "manager" (Jeff?) was quite the piece of work. Was drunk and high as a kite, and would talk your ear off.

Was Charlie there?

He's the steel guitar player. He plays with them most of the time, but I think he's in a couple other bands, too, so it make scheduling tricky. He's a super cool dude. His son, Matty, is the bass player for Hans and the 86ers and also for Sol Driven Train.
Did Cravin Melon play, or did they cancel?

The drummer was Evans Nicholson, who I don't think plays with them regularly anymore. But the other 4 were Charlie, Futch, Bobby and Dan.
It was just BDs.

When Phillip Lammonds plays with them its always fun. He was part of them when they started, and plays with them sometimes still. Dude plays the the mandolin like a lead guitar. I think he wrote "in the way back" and "Cosmic Cowboy", but that might have been Radney Foster, I don't rememeber.
I'm sure they'll do a Windjammer show this summer, but I'd like to hear them again soon.
Look at this pic from '89--36 years and 50 pounds ago
